It went too far, even some conservatives didn’t like it. Anytime this type of initiative comes up, it needs to me made clear that a women’s life would never be on the table, as in the case of a tubal pregnacy, for example. The Repulican governor made this same point.

Simply establishing that life begins at conception, a scientific and biological fact, is now too extreme for “some conservatives”??

Then this country deserves to be doomed I guess.

Totally true. Whether we like it or not, America is not absolute on abortion. Either way. Very few people support NO abortion even to save the life of the mother, just like only a few % support partial birth abortion (when it’s clearly explained and not couched in flowery liberal language).

Did the text of the proposition come short in this manner, or did its “official explanation” come short? That this is never intended to apply in cases where the life of the mother is in danger?

A unique person is created at conception. However, most people probably aren’t willing to give a single cell zygote the same level of protection as a baby in the 2nd or 3rd trimester. That just the way it is, whether or not we agree with it.

Very well said and precisely the reason that I voted AGAINST it. When crafting ballot initiatives in the future, Mississippi should realize (to their surprise) that many Mississippians are, after all, capable of analytical thinking. I am decidedly anti-abortion but have no wish to unnecessarily endanger the life of an expectant mother because of legislation crafted by people incapable of logical and rational thought. Or, could it be that the wording used was purposeful, that purpose being to fail the bill?? I have no answer for that, of course, but time may eventually reveal the truth.

Until they can figure out who broke the law (doctor, mother...both?) and just what the penalty will be, you will never see a change in Roe v Wade.

From what I have read you are right. It was not a law to outlaw abortions, but would have also been illegal to get contraceptives..They went too far and lost the chance to do away with abortions.. The shame is on the radicals that wanted more than abortions to be made illegal...they wanted everything and got nothing...just finished arguing with one that wanted everything made illegal..blame it on them.
