Russia: Israeli threat of strikes on Iran 'a mistake'
BBC ^ | November 7, 2011 | Unattributed

Military action against Iran would be a "very serious mistake fraught with unpredictable consequences", Russia's foreign minister has warned.

Sergei Lavrov said diplomacy, not missile strikes, was the only way to solve the Iranian nuclear problem.

His comments come after Israeli President Shimon Peres said an attack on Iran was becoming more likely.

Mr Lavrov said it was "far from the first time" Israel had threatened strikes against Iran, when asked for his view on Mr Peres' recent comments.

"Our position on this issue is well-known: this would be a very serious mistake fraught with unpredictable consequences," he told reporters.

Mr Lavrov said "the only path for removing concerns is to create every possible condition" to resume the talks between Iran and six world powers - including Russia - which broke down in December last year.

Another country heard from...sounding like their intelligence services are detecting Israeli preparations giving at least the appearance of a pending strike.

Russians helped prepare Iran for nukes. Israel needs to do what it has to do. Jehovah, God, be with them! Russia is stupid to think that Iran will ever REALLY be their ally - they will only against Israel and the West but ultimately the Russians will have to recognize alla as their god or beheaded like the rest of us.

Whereas, NOT striking and allowing Iran nuclear weapon capability is very serious, with 100% predictable results. If Iran has a nuke, there will be no Israel - it's that simple.

Islam makes no attempt at subtly, they tell us precisely what they want to do. Iran has stated on numerous occasions that they seek the utter annihilation of Israel.

Don’t be that naive. It is a Russian national interest to provoke an epic crap in ME with Iran getting bombed.

Look deeply into their actions.

Why has Russian government banned selling any effective SAMs to Iran?

They want to have a war waged by someone else in ME and they want Israel and US to rape Iran as soon as they got paid for this nuke facility.

It makes oil prices go up and also good for their defence contractors who are getting more orders from numerous concerned dictators.

Russia needs to be asked “If Iran made the same threats against them, what would they do?” I think the answer is obvious.

Russia is posturing for perception, and wants to appear as the reasonable and rational good guy, while insuring a major attack on Iran. Russia knows that Iran will eventually attack Israel and Iran must be perceived as very dangerous and insane to legitimize military action against Iran.

When this blows up, who better to occupy and control Iran, her oilfields, and warm water port, than her next door neighbor Russia? Even without occupation Russia no longer has to compete against her oil.

Russia is giving Iran the tools and freedom to prove to the world she should be castrated, subjugated, and occupied.

Russia supplied Iraq with their air defense system — which the US took down with trivial ease. that was a huge black eye for the Russian arms industry. If Israel does the same with Iran, after Iran installed lots of Russian gear, the Russian arms export industry would never recover.

Just finished reading Cheney’s biography and the shameful part where we wuss’d out on the Syrian Reactor complex and left it to the Israeli’s to clean up (which they did not hesitate to do, largely without any consequence).

Oh c’mon. A few dozen overpriced point defence units?
Iran wanted S-300 and they haven’t sold it.

Prophecy taking shape before our eyes. Russia has formed a quite alliance with the muslim countries and this is one of the last stages before Armageddon. Words to be comforted by...."Be ye not fearful for I am with you. Be Still and Know that I am God!" He is still in control! Lord Almighty, come!

Russia: Israeli threat of strikes on Iran 'a mistake'

I agree. Israel should have made nice, begged for peace talks, and then bombed Iran back into the Stone Age when the Iranian leaders were relaxed and confident that Israel would not act. Communicating an overt or implied threat was a mistake.

And I guess that logically - an Iranian strike on Isreal would also be “...fraught with unpredictable consequences...” also?

Oh, forgot, we’re talkin’ “liberal logic” here.

(Which - of course - is the very definition of an oxymoron.)

It is so strange that they don’t even know they are fulfilling prophecy. They don’t even realize that their teaming up was foretold!

An Israeli attack on Iran could indeed be a mistake, but so could not attacking Iran and waiting for them to attack first.

Bingo. If Russia had sold Iran one of its "state of the art" air defense systems, it would have been exposed as a piece of junk.

Fascist Russia is a diabolical power like China, devoted to weakening the West.

Russia sells Iran among others its air defense systems. If Israel succeeds in attacking Iran, Russian sales of air defense systems will plummet.

No, the only way to have solved it was to make sure they didn't get what they needed from Russia. A-hole.
