From the organizers: "“We initially wanted a forum with all of the candidates,” O’Sullivan says. “But when we heard Gingrich say he wanted a more serious debate, like the Lincoln–Douglas debates, we wanted to do that, especially since watching the recent superficial debates has been frustrating.”

"Organizing the event was relatively easy, he adds. “We had a relationship with Herman Cain. He spoke at our tea-party event six months ago. We contacted him, asking if he was interested in a Lincoln–Douglas debate on entitlements. Then we got in touch with Speaker Gingrich.”

But that won't stop some people from claiming that other candidates "failed to come" to a TWO-PERSON-FORMAT-DEBATE.

Perry and Romney were invited to do a DIFFERENT one-on-one: "The group has contacted the campaigns of Texas Gov. Rick Perry and ex-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney to see if they would participate in a separate Lincoln-Douglas-style debate.

I doubt they will do it -- there's nothing in it for Romney to debate Perry on his own.

But I've given up with expecting facts to get in the way of a good smear around here.

Whatever you do, don’t point out Perry has already reduced medical costs in Texas with Tort Reform and successfully tested a privatized SS system in Galveston which he thinks everyone should be able to implement.

The last thing people want to hear is Texas already been there, done that, racked up the savings and success.
