You have NO IDEA what a rumor mill this town is !!! Secrets and confidentiality have no place here, especially in the political realm. Truman’s ‘get a dog’ line was not for naught.
Think about how many people knew the story ... NRA staff and their lawyers and their staffs, their lobbyists and their staffs, some Capitol Hill staffers and their wives, girlfriends, friends, 3rd cousins twice removed, and on and on and on.
And think about how one of that universe would take such satisfaction in thinking s/he could anonymously wreck a leading presidential candidate. It’s that power thing.
