That was fast: As part of its seemingly ever-evolving media strategy, Herman Cain’s campaign appears to have pulled the plug on blaming Rick Perry for the swirl of accusations surrounding the candidate.
“We want to move on with the campaign. Let’s get over these things that don’t mean anything to the American public,” Mark Block, Cain's campaign manager, told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly on Thursday afternoon.
But that’s not about to become any easier. Politico reported Thursday that one of the women who accused Cain of sexual harassment during his time at the National Restaurant Assn. received a payout of $45,000 to settle the matter and keep quiet.
Previously, the New York Times reported that a second woman received a severance of $35,000—which for her was a year’s salary.
The Politico report would seem to again put Cain’s credibility at issue. He has said the woman’s complaint is one that he recalls, but has described it as “baseless” and first said she received a negligible “termination" settlement of perhaps two or three months' salary.
He later shifted his account, saying the amount could have been larger, perhaps six months’ salary.
Block appeared on Fox News on Wednesday evening and blistered the Perry campaign, accusing former Cain aide Curt Anderson, now in the Perry camp, of leaking details of the harassment allegations.
But Anderson, in a round of media interviews, denied knowing anything about the allegations and had nothing but good things to say about Cain.
“I didn't know anything about this. It's hard to leak something you don't know anything about, of course,” Anderson told CNN on Thursday.

“Oh, I agree. Like maybe witnesses? And two settlements in three years with a third complaint who did not inhouse sue for settlement? There’s pretty much your “host of reasons”. LOL.”
As often as not, with sexual harassment cases in the business world, “a settlement” is the purpose of the accusation to begin with. Chances are 50-50 that the accusers got what they sought to get in the first place - $$$$.
I'm tired of all the stories that have been recanted, currently being told as if they are still valid.

Look, I don’t owe you my source list, links or anything else. I have sent you suggestions on my trail of research so you could supposedly “update” yourself because you asked. I tried to help. I explained that I don’t post links, articles or draw pictures in my comments. I have had a decent conversation with you, I thought, up thread and took the time to ping you to another thread I thought might help. Now you come here yowling about what I have heard on FOX, CNN and read on six other websites over the last couple of days. Go find it yourself. This story is admittedly changing moment to moment, but not for the better, as the media is in full feeding frenzy. What is said one minute may change in the next. If you can’t keep up, get a tutor. I will say what I have heard and read and what I believe with liberty. That’s my right. If you can’t discount it, tough. Maybe in a couple of days you can get on the front end of this cyclone, but right now you are behind the curve, don’t seem to know squat yourself and are teed off because I’ve read what you can not even find and from it I have formed an opinion. I don’t have to source an opinion. If it turns out the story changes and Herb is proven to have never said he has no skeletons in his closet, when he obviously did, and that the story was baseless, which it obviously wasn’t, that this was all fiction and that there were no pay outs by what ever name, and there was one girl, not three, let me know and I will decide if I believe it. Meanwhile, go rag your own pals who prefer to believe Cain is covered in glitter and it’s all Perry’s fault. And good luck with that. Maybe I pinged Lonewolf instead of you, btw. Gotta disagree with you here on ‘keep digging.’ The money bomb was a sympathetic/angry response to a horrible smear. Turning around and smearing another candidate for the office he seeks was just plain dumb, and actually pretty low, on Cain’s part.
Let’s see if the $$$ and polling continues to rise. Not sure what polling’s been done since last night when Block and Cain unleashed their own baseless charges, from which they are now backing off.
If ALL Bill Clinton ever did was ask a woman to 'doctor his tea'.....it would never have been a big deal.
But we well know Clinton more than likely asked women to 'play doctor with him'.....

That's a phone call sort of settlement. He must have made the call in DC. They have a 30% limit ~ give or take a few things like "expenses" ~ the $500 photo copy job, the $278 three minute phone call, the note pad where he took down the number.

Got it. You’re unable to provide a single link or to document a single source from which you’ve obtained what you present as facts. Nor have I read from a single other FReeper, Cain friend or foe, who claims to have read or heard the particular allegations you’re making and that I, and others, have questioned.
If I’d read your posting history prior to asking the question, I can assure you I wouldn’t have asked you. That’s my mistake, and I apologize that you’re now so riled up because of it. You’re clearly more emotionally invested, and your posts tend to a much more vitriolic style, than I normally engage.
