Cain chief-of-staff walks back Perry accusations

Herman Cain's chief-of-staff Mark Block walked back accusations that Rick Perry's campaign was responsible for the leak of accusations of sexual harassment during the candidate's time as president of the National Restaurant Association, saying that he would "accept" the claim by a former staffer now affiliated with the Perry campaign that he was not the leak.

"Until we get all the facts, I'm just going to say that we accept what Mr. Anderson has said, and we want to move on with the campaign," Block said on Fox News.

Curt Anderson, the former Cain staffer, has flatly denied the accusations, saying earlier on Fox News that any reporters he had ever spoken to about the Cain were free to openly attribute those comments to him. In doing so, he opened up the door for Politico, who originally reported the story, to confirm him as the source. Politico has not done so, effectively eliminating Anderson as the source of the story.

Ah, I get it. It’s Rove, not the Cain campaign, behind the Perry accusation. Oh please.

Has the Perry camp addressed the behavior of their Pollster Chris Wilson and Perry’s Arizona State coordinator yet?

I've been watching for that, but haven't spotted anything yet.

Yep, much better to be handled by a group of people who let a good speech get morphed into a drunken sideshow.

BS. Even if he publicly said that they could release his name doesn’t mean he didn’t leak it. Reporters may still want to protect their source because if they go this route then everyone starts saying “Release my name if I leaked”. The one not agreeing to that is then outed.

However, if he was the leak and wanted his name known he’d just say I did it. By saying I didn’t leak it then saying the politico can say if I did is a clue that he doesn’t want to be outed.

Still say it was Romney. Obengruppenfuhrer Rahm Ernst might have prodded Perry’s camp with the info, but it sides up best viz Occam’s Razor with Romney and his deep, deep NRA connections.

Do you have PROOF of your as yet unfounded allegation? Or do you just like to randomly smear candidates you don’t support?

That statement was about China’s aircraft carriers.

common decency on FR isn’t really all that common these days.

You can say that again. This forum used to have intelligent conversation. Now if you aren't in lockstep with a given poster's candidate you are vilified. And candidates who are running against a given poster's favorite are smeared with the ugliest of character assassination. I find myself on here less and less these days. It's grown too contentious for me.

Good for him. Being the adult in the room AGAIN. Doesn’t mean he didn’t do it, the truth will prevail. If Anderson and Wilson were involved, we’ll know soon enough.

Now it’s time for Perry, Bachmann and Santorum camp to man up and the “accept” Cain’s statement of innocence on the sexual harassment issue, stance on abortion and the MANY other issues they have misrepresented him on.

I agree. After this mishandling, Block needs to be demoted and definitely not put in front of a live camera or mike.

Last election, people actually talked about their candidates (pro or con) without all the name calling—except in the Smoky Backroom. This election, I’m hesitant to recommend FR to my friends. Just too much of a food fight, and not a lot of intelligent back and forth. I miss the FR that got to the bottom of Dan Rather’s “documents” and other finer moments.

Everybody knows Rahm and the Obama mob machine did it and would love the GOP and tea party fighting; divided they conquer.

If you had listned to what Mr. Cain actually said during his interview relative PRC nuclear weapons, he said they were developing nuclear capability, meaning expanding their nuclear delivery sytems and mix of nuclear weapons. And.....Cain has handled this rather well for an accused person whose accusers refuse to identify themselves and accuse him directly. Simple, Ms. accusers, give us your name, rank & serial number, and then you are free to blab. Methinks, you have been drinking the Kool-Aid of Barack Hussein Obama & Karl Rove!!! And....you have swallowed the tales of the mainstream media without question. Sad!!!

"Until we get all the facts, I'm just going to say that we accept what Mr. Anderson has said, and we want to move on with the campaign," Block said on Fox News.

Then less than a minute later he said they stand by Cain's remarks from yesterday. Megan Kelly pointed out that yesterday Cain accused Anderson by name, so do you stand by that or not? Block tried to dismiss his contradition with the Cain standby "We're moving on". Probably just wanted to get out of there and have a smoke.

That's what I think. This has Alinsky, Rahm, and Obama written all over it.

Can't wait for the truth to emerge.

Do you know what I think is really dishonorable? That neither the Perry nor the Romney campaigns came out against the vagueness of the Politico charges against Cain. It is this type of “gotcha” journalism that keeps decent people out of politics. And neither the Romney camp nor the Perry camp has spoken out against sullying reputations nor the feeding frenzy of this type of story. Why haven’t they said, let’s get beck to the issues? They seem culpable because of their lack of spine in this matter to me. They seem to be enjoying their “fellow” Republican get accused of vague charges. Perry and Romney seem to have forgotten that we are fighting a bigger fight than amongst each other.
