The Cain Saga: Perry Consultant Dares Reporters To Prove He’s Behind The Story
TPM ^ | November 3, 2011 | Evan McMorris-Santoro

Posted on 11/03/2011 10:16:05 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Day four of the Herman Cain sexual harassment story is all about the blame game. Team Cain blames Rick Perry for making the press aware of the accusations of inappropriate behavior Cain admits came his way when he was CEO of the National Restaurant Association in the late 1990s.

Team Perry, meanwhile, says it’s the Mitt Romney campaign who sent the story to Politico. The Perry camp denies strenuously that they had anything to do with the story which is, at its heart, about accusations Cain has admitted are real — though he says he never harassed anybody. Romney’s campaign also denied they’re the source of the story to TPM and other outlets Wednesday.

Meanwhile on the backburner bubbles the possibility that one of the accusers could make a public statement at any moment. That could send this story ricocheting into a different direction, but for now the Cain campaign seems to think they’re onto something by making the tale about who told reporters Cain was accused of sexually harassing more than one woman rather than the fact that Cain was accused of sexually harassing more than one woman.

“Perry Campaign Used Politico to Attack Cain With Anonymous Sexual Harassment Charges,” reads a press release sent out last night by the Cain team. (Of course, Cain’s campaign has admitted the Politico story wasn’t anonymous, but that’s not really important to constructing the Perry-as-leaker narrative.)

Meanwhile, the man Cain himself says is responsible for the story is totally denying Cain’s version of things. Consultant Curt Anderson advised Cain’s 2004 Senate campaign and now works for a firm that works with Perry. Cain said he told Anderson about the sexual harassment allegations during the course a meeting back in 2003, but Anderson categorically denied that this morning on CNN:

“It’s hard to leak something you don’t know anything about,” he said. Asked directly about the conversation Cain claimed they had eight years ago, Anderson said: “I don’t have any knowledge of any of this and, you know, it’s just not true.”

Then on Fox today, Anderson went a step farther.

“All this stuff about who leaked whatever, any reporter in the free world is free to say anything to anybody that I ever said to them about can Herman Cain,” he said. “I give them carte blanche to do that because I have absolutely nothing to hide.”

You are just going to have to look at the timeline. You are going to have to watch the interview with Anderson and Block. You are going to have to believe your lying eyes and ears. Cain is spinning and frankly this should never be where it is today.
Do you know how I know Cain is falsely accusing Perry? Because his supporters have done that for a month on Free Republic but I always assumed they were Romney supporters pretending to be Cain’s guys because, hey, Cain is a saint right? I mean he’s a preacher even if his church is a liberal social justice church, he’s still a preacher. Then they did this to the Perry camp and I realized , wow this guy is dirty and his the guys on FR who have tried to smear Perry are actually from the Cain camp. I am talking about specific guys too, not just any Cain supporter but specific ones who call Perry a drunk a day before the video hits Youtube. That’s the Cain way but it’s not the Perry way. Perry hits you in the face as evidence of his constant hits on Romney (unlike Herb). Perry is the guy with class and integrity here. Perry is the guy who has been shooting straight. Now Cain is out passing the plate “Please send your donation of 9 dollars or 999 dollars to help us in our time of need. We want to raise 999,000 dollars by November 9th”. “ <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

SPLENDID POST! Worth repeating! Laser point observation! Thanks for a GREAT read!

I like YOUR style! And, what you said about where the money will go. Cainonites will go, post implosion, to Newt. Don’t you think? Since they are now and always have been attracted solely by the best mouth piece, they will go directly to Newt and make him miserable for awhile.

And the Obama CAMP is a white as the driven snow in all this mess.

Perry or anyone else as a candidate, has all the RIGHT to Disavow all and anything said by a subordinate. That subordinate should be FIRED, IF PROVEN they did this.

When the story of the harassment first broke, I believed it was pure crap

I now believe it happened. When your whole candidacy is based on your supposed character you better have some.

normy, you know what happened? Tell us, normy.

I agree that block should be kept away from TV but him being stupid doesn't mean that Herman is guilty of any charges or non-charges.

Yesterday I didn't believe that you ever had sex with an animal. But now, since there has been an innuendo that you did, I'm not sure.

How can you prove a negative?

It's called innocent until proven {not charged} guilty.

Anything is possible, but I fear Cain’s money may be directed to Romney. I think Newt is too sensible and intelligent for the Cain supporters (here come the flames).

I don't want him to prove anything. It's a total "he said she said" but Cain went from knowing nothing to knowing a little. From a 2-3 month severance package to maybe 6 months and now it's a years salary. From accusing Anderson and saying he told Anderson himself of the accusation to now wanting to move on.

Well Mr. Cain, Anderson says you never told him anything about the accusation and he learned about it when everyone else did. So Cain did you or did you not tell Mr. Anderson about the accusation of sexual harassment? Convince me please because one of you is lying. I think it's Mr. Cain.

You could put a half hour montage of Cain debating himself on everything from abortion to 9-9-9 (9-0-9) to this story to the new separate story of accusing Anderson.

By the way, I am just telling you how my thought process went down. When this first broke I was like my dad "the wench is probably lying"

As Herb Cain came out looking like a damn liar I still gave him the benefit of being unpolished, even though he does this with everything gets caught saying and is challenged.

Now after his team has publicly accused a man, who has patently and clearly denied he was involved in leaking this, in an attempt to take down Rick Perry, I think this guy does whatever he wants.

Understand this is my own personal opinion of the situation and Cain owes me nothing because I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth anymore anyway.

Convince me please because one of you is lying. I think it's Mr. Cain.

You started by saying that first believed Cain but now he's guilty, and I axed you, guilty of what?

Back to that animal was it a goat or a sheep, male or female, fully grown or a young'un?

Take your time, I know it's been 12 years since you've been accused of making non-sexual gestures toward an animal, and the farmer said he'll release you from the confidentiality agreement, but surely you can remember these details?

Memory a little fuzzy?

Hard to disprove an outrageous allegation or innuendo?

Take your time, you don't have 50 newshounds beating on your door.

"I never did anything with a farm animal. Who told you such an outrageous lie? I may sue their ass and yours for trying to defame my character"

but see Cain couldn't say that because he did know about the accusation and the payoff. He was spinning from the get go and he could never sue anyone because she was already paid off and the story of the allegation was true.

Do you understand the story was about an allegation when he was CEO and not some chick they pulled off the street, gave her a story in order to destroy Cain's candidacy?

I am not defending Mark Block (because I support Perry) but this is how I interpreted his interview today on Fox:

He's leaving open the idea that it came from "inside" the Perry camp, but has cut Anderson in the clear. So, I would not expect an apology because to me it sounds like he still thinks its someone with the Perry team, just not Anderson.

for whatever that's worth

Good for awesome Perry!

I just got home and I heard on the radio Shep Smith say that Herman Cain is the one that leaked the information and he was laughing like Cain is an idiot. And Cain IS an Idiot I agree.

How dare Cain blame Perry. FUHC

I’m listening to Cain on Hannity right now.

Cain is still saying it’s Perry’s camp.

Google that.
