The Cain Saga: Perry Consultant Dares Reporters To Prove He’s Behind The Story
TPM ^ | November 3, 2011 | Evan McMorris-Santoro

Posted on 11/03/2011 10:16:05 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Day four of the Herman Cain sexual harassment story is all about the blame game. Team Cain blames Rick Perry for making the press aware of the accusations of inappropriate behavior Cain admits came his way when he was CEO of the National Restaurant Association in the late 1990s.

Team Perry, meanwhile, says it’s the Mitt Romney campaign who sent the story to Politico. The Perry camp denies strenuously that they had anything to do with the story which is, at its heart, about accusations Cain has admitted are real — though he says he never harassed anybody. Romney’s campaign also denied they’re the source of the story to TPM and other outlets Wednesday.

Meanwhile on the backburner bubbles the possibility that one of the accusers could make a public statement at any moment. That could send this story ricocheting into a different direction, but for now the Cain campaign seems to think they’re onto something by making the tale about who told reporters Cain was accused of sexually harassing more than one woman rather than the fact that Cain was accused of sexually harassing more than one woman.

“Perry Campaign Used Politico to Attack Cain With Anonymous Sexual Harassment Charges,” reads a press release sent out last night by the Cain team. (Of course, Cain’s campaign has admitted the Politico story wasn’t anonymous, but that’s not really important to constructing the Perry-as-leaker narrative.)

Meanwhile, the man Cain himself says is responsible for the story is totally denying Cain’s version of things. Consultant Curt Anderson advised Cain’s 2004 Senate campaign and now works for a firm that works with Perry. Cain said he told Anderson about the sexual harassment allegations during the course a meeting back in 2003, but Anderson categorically denied that this morning on CNN:

“It’s hard to leak something you don’t know anything about,” he said. Asked directly about the conversation Cain claimed they had eight years ago, Anderson said: “I don’t have any knowledge of any of this and, you know, it’s just not true.”

Then on Fox today, Anderson went a step farther.

“All this stuff about who leaked whatever, any reporter in the free world is free to say anything to anybody that I ever said to them about can Herman Cain,” he said. “I give them carte blanche to do that because I have absolutely nothing to hide.”

” When can we expect the Perry camping to address the actions of these two smear merchants and their ties to the Perry Campaign? “ <<<<

How about when Cain obsesses a little more with Romney. Perry is not suppose to be much of a threat isn’t that right? Maybe he could do his fandango against Romney just once in awhile. Isn’t Romney leading? I believe Cain dropped this little bomb so he could use it to stick another fork in Perry. After all, he is serving as Romney’s mouthpiece.

There is no way on earth this campaign is going to survive. Childish.

I would tend to agree but strange things happen in politics.

However it seems that the Cain train wasn't loaded with info, plans, strategies. If it would have been then there would have been a detailed plan of how to handle this situation when it would inevitably come out. If Cain knew and had knowledge of the charges/settlements and made no plans for their eventual surfacing then he lacks planning or strategic thinking.

“Be Prepared” .. A Boy Scout Cain wasn't it seems.

” Also, this may explain why he hasn’t had more support from within the business community. “ <<<<

Also might explain why his wife has other things to do and never appears with the jerk, UNTIL, he’s in trouble that is.
Well, he’s in trouble now, so maybe he will trot her out.

Herman Cain did not throw false accusations at anyone. It is the other way around. You guys work just like the Liberals work. It may not have been Perry directly who did this,l but the Company who works for him did. Because the NRA had the incident sealed, No one else knew about it but Anderson, who had been Cain’s campaign manager when he ran for the Senate. Perry has to take credit for what the company he pays to represent him does.

Thanks for digging this up. This girl has been trashed over this. Good lord, I imagine all the candidates, including zer0, have done their oppo research. That is part of the process.

I could post a link to a liberal blogger who did his own research into Cain with lots of links to legit sources but you know what drama that would stir up. Let’s just say, some here might be surprised at what they find.

It was announced by FOX News. I tape things after nine o’clock because I retire early, and I haven’t checked my tape yet today. So it had to be before 9PM WDT.

Then you missed Anderson’s appearance on Fox this morning and Block’s walk-back of their accusations against Perry and Anderson?

I watched Bret Baier, saw some of O’Reilly, watched Fox and Friends this morning — have been listening to the news today — NEVER have I heard one word that Cain apologized to Perry. And THAT would have made the news.

When you find the quote, please ping me.

We are going to find out.

More and more it looks to me like Cain is a jerk.

You are just going to have to look at the timeline. You are going to have to watch the interview with Anderson and Block.

You are going to have to believe your lying eyes and ears.

Cain is spinning and frankly this should never be where it is today.

Do you know how I know Cain is falsely accusing Perry? Because his supporters have done that for a month on Free Republic but I always assumed they were Romney supporters pretending to be Cain's guys because, hey, Cain is a saint right? I mean he's a preacher even if his church is a liberal social justice church, he's still a preacher. Then they did this to the Perry camp and I realized , wow this guy is dirty and his the guys on FR who have tried to smear Perry are actually from the Cain camp. I am talking about specific guys too, not just any Cain supporter but specific ones who call Perry a drunk a day before the video hits Youtube. That's the Cain way but it's not the Perry way. Perry hits you in the face as evidence of his constant hits on Romney (unlike Herb). Perry is the guy with class and integrity here. Perry is the guy who has been shooting straight. Now Cain is out passing the plate "Please send your donation of 9 dollars or 999 dollars to help us in our time of need. We want to raise 999,000 dollars by November 9th"

There is an extremely close connection between a Romney guy and the National Restaurant Association. And people with that NRA, in large numbers, knew about the allegations against Cain. Have known for years. A Romney guy with knowledge, or any, any of the NRA people who knew about this could have been Politico’s source.

You only say Perry is suspect bc you want to say that and you want to ignore everything else that is staring you in the face.

I’m sending a sizeable donation to the Perry campaign this week. When the Cain frenzy is over and he is done, he will probably send his money and support to Romney and that won’t be good for any conservative.

Are you truly so ignorant of the facts?

They didn’t allow it. They painted over the word. Eventually the word showed a little through the worn down paint, so then they turned the rock around backwards so it couldn’t be read.

And it wasn’t even their property, but was where they went hunting a couple times a year.

Which shows just how much they didn’t like it.

What is wrong with you?

Your right and his support will certainly go to Romney.

Perry has been the consistent one here. Cain is a personality.
