The Curious Timing of the Herman Cain Accusation (Could a GOP campaign be the source)

Why now?

The democrats know that Cain, should he gain momentum and secure the Republican nomination would just demolish the democrat base. The heart of the Obama base is Blacks. the heart of the democrat base is women and minorities.

Their articles of faith are that big government is needed to protect women and minorities from the evil white men and their greedy corporations.

They also think that the wing-nuts of the right will instantly turn on each other instead of their common enemy.
Just have a troll throw them a fake story and watch them go after each other.

I honestly believe Karl Rove was probably behind this.

On behalf of his candidate.

I’m sick of people acting as though the earth shook when this story came out.

It’s articles such as these that are playing exactly into the hands Politico dealt them.

Why was this story treated by our side as a “bombshell”? Do we not know enough to expect this kind of treatment from media such as Politico? And do we not know enough to expect that every candidate is going to have something brought to light that is, at first blush, unfavorable?

Is there some reason we, as a “base,” don’t just calmly say: “Okay, whatever, Politico. We’ll look into and get back to you.”

IOW, we’ll review the FACTS, but we’re not going to let you, LSM, throw us into some kind of globalthermonuclear uproar and chaos because, gasp, you published something unfavorable about one of candidates in an unfavorable way.

Our side constantly writing about how supposedly horrible this has been for Cain just creates the impression that it’s been horrible for Cain. When just maybe that is not the case.

And now this: sowing discord or worse among those supporting various candidates. Is this helpful or stupid?

It is well documented. There was settlement.

The issue is NOT about whether harrassment occurred or its nature. The issue is why Cain would not know this ahead of time, disclose it ahead of time, or worst case, have a crisp and consistent response when the issue came up.

And, adding insult to injury, he kept changing his tune all day long and was not parroting the same things his campaign folks were parrating.

I’ll take you seriously when you start posting reasoned thoughtful post about why we should support your candidate rather then your usual collection of emotion based personal attacks at the other candidates in the race.

Oh, the stories I could tell about these types of complaints and what I’ve seen in the workplace . . .

I wish the response had been to the simple fact that these complaints were, in fact, made and, when put in perspective, they don’t say anything negative about Cain’s character or conduct. End of discussion.

Maybe call out Politico once or twice for HOW they reported the facts. Then drop it.

I see us actually repeating en masse the hyperreaction of millions of HR departments across the land whenever the words “sexual harrassment” are used. It’s like cancer: people begin screaming “Get it out! Slash and burn! Whatever it takes!” — when there are some cases where “watchful waiting” is appropriate.

But I literally have seen “sexual harrassment” complaints that had to do with a woman being offended that she was not included in a golf outing (even though she didn’t play golf) and similar. Nothing about sex at all. Just offended + female gender = “sexual” harrassment.

We should have (and, I guess, still could) used the opportunity, once the facts were evaluated and Cain was politically exonerated (by his base), to discuss how Liberal policies and the entitlement mentality distorted the workplace and working relationships, and led to HR departments hyper-reacting as though they had to be Human Shields Against Tort Lawyers, regardless of how stupid the complaint.

You’re not wrong.

But what you’re focusing on is whether or not Cain handled the revelation of these facts in a politically skillful way.

That’s a separate issue from the actual incident, and one which is in the eyes of the beholder.

Not sure if it’s a Republican or not. If so, my guess would be Romney, or the nutty Paul people.

Does anyone have the audio montage that Hannity played yesterday when interviewing Juan Williams? The montage of all the liberal news people and how conservatives are racist because of the support of Cain.

Actually his not handling it like a politician is what I like about him.

Yesterday I was thinking along the same lines as indianrightwinger. However after compiling the statements it's obvious he was learning more and more facts throughout the day. This is why different interviews have different statements. I believe he was trying to be honest as the day went on and he learned more details. Perhaps he should have stone-walled all day yesterday and released a statement today that would be comprehensive. He didn't, and I think this may be a bit of an amateur move. However, the way he handled it yesterday was fresh and endearing in my eyes. I'm glad he didn't handle it like a politician would have.

This story broke SUNDAY NIGHT for crying out loud. Cain had an entire day of media access and press interviews and somewhere during that time he had to find out what in the world was going on, what his accusers were saying, if there were any non disclosure documents and such - which I’m sure it took a bit for the NRA to piece together information and do it between interviews all day long.

Sounds like you would have preferred the perfect politician sound byte. I could care less if Cain doesn’t have the perfect polished answers, as long as he DOES the right thing.

I know one thing - the evidence is building on one candidate being behind this hit piece. This kind of sleazy kneecapping that you would expect from the liberals is going cost him when/if it all comes out.

It’s highly unlikely that it’s from a Republican candidate. They’re all smart enough to know that if this ever came out it would be the death nail. They also know that an organization like Politico would wait until late in the general to bring out the source.

It’s much more likely that the Dem’s are scared to death of Cain & the beat down he would put on Obama if he gets the nod. Cain’s popularity is surging not just among conservatives, but among the general electorate. Better to nip this in the bud than to let that popularity get out of control & become irretrievable.

These types of charges are designed to disappoint and discourage the conservative base.

We have seen this before, though, and at least they had a face to fling dung at Clarence Thomas.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Names, dates, times, and original documents citing infractions in detail, or as far as I am concerned, it didn't happen, whatever 'it' was.

I definitely think it came from the GOP. It is timed to get him out of the primary, not out of the election.

Seems to me the gag order has already been violated, else we wouldn’t even be talking about this.
