Well, there are other problems with him, too. Pandering to hispanics and opening Texas to educating illegals isn't what I'd call preparing for a 30 second sound bite. It is a genuine, heartfelt liberal trait.

Pandering? Have you even bothered to listen to the interview? Paying instate tuition is not welfare, it’s not even cheap. They have to apply for citizenship, they have to PAY the tuition, and it’s not that big a deal. It’s a LOT cheaper then the welfare or the jail costs if they were tossed out on the streets. After all, Texas can’t toss them anyplace else because federal law prohibits it. You have half educated kids because SCOTUS requires states to provide both education and medical care to illegals. Do you toss them on the streets and let the smarter kids get jobs with the cartels and gangs or do you allow them to go to college paying an instate tuition (again NOT FREE) and possibly become something that will add to this country.

He did not open Texas to educating illegals, the Supreme Court forced Texas to educate illegals and the Feds refuse to deport them.

Because the feds ignore those families, even ignore the invaders crossing the border with children in tow, and force us to educate and feed them in our schools on the free lunch and breakfast program who stick out because they are the ones without a Social Security number, we have some that live here over 3 years and graduate with grades sufficient to get them accepted to college.

We had to decide as a state what to do with these proven achievers. The Legislature decided to allow them to pay the in state tuition, overwhelmingly passed the law in 2001, again in 2005 and refused to consider it in 2011.

I doubt Perry is pandering to hispanics. He’s offering, children of illegal parents, who brought their children here, which the kids had no say so of staying in Mexico or coming to America. If the children finish high school, they are then eligible to attend a university, technical or training school, as a resident, if they qualify. The children of illegal parents wil pay in state tuition just any other student must. Simple. I’d rather see these students offer something to TX rather live on the dole all of their lives like some Americans are doing. At least the young people will be putting tax money in the till rather than taking money out.
