Search warrants were available if you had the necessary information. I was taught, though to intimidate people into letting me search their car without probable cause.
I was told to ask people to open the trunk, if I wanted to look there, and if they would not, to get a lug wrench out of the truck and tell them that the trunk was coming open, one way or another. I was told that this tactic worked every time.
I do not think people could get away with that sort of intimidation today, with ubiquitous video cameras.
I was also told that a warden could go on private land anytime he thought there was a reason to investigate possible game or fish violations on that land. I was lead to believe that there was always some way to justify going on private property if one wanted to.
Interestingly, the warden force in Wisconsin had the habit of running around on old logging roads and back trails with their lights off, attempting to catch poachers. They (unsurprisingly) had the highest accident rate of any group in the state. They were worried about liability, so they came up with a time honored solution: they lobbied the legislature and had them pass a law which granted them immunity if they had an accident while running around with their lights off.
Reminds me of a story I heard in West by God.
A warden had a dismissive attitude towards people. One day he passes a land owner without even waving so the land owner followed after him until the road narrowed and cut down a tree over the road. The warden waved after that.
Please describe your game taking habits? If you can make a case for them I would be more than willing to allow you an exemption because of your specialness. But like I said those game wardens on that particular show were dealing with psychopaths. One of those who you defend videoed himself having sexual relations with a dead pig, and at other times he would video himself and other friends chopping off the heads of captured feral hogs with broad swords. Do you want this “man” as your neighbor?
I placed it in the context of watching a show on TV. I also clearly stated that yes there is a sub-culture in that area of low IQ pathological personality types that could engender little sympathy by society at large. Unless you think meth smoking pig fornicating Tule elk poaching bear gall bladder selling thrill killers are swell freedom loving exemplars of our society. I don’t, but if you do please tell us why.
Agreed. But ethics are a never ending debate and dealing with hunting, ethics are the very basis of its existance otherwise we could just buy bologna at the store. Some outfit out of Utah named “Kings” sent me a catalog trying to peddle some clothing line for “extreme” hunters. so I’m flipping thru it and took to reading a short story about trophy elk hunting and I came up to the part about using radios to locate the elk so the “hunter” can get his shot at a huge elk. But that is the state of the hunting industry these days taken over by the lunatics with a sense of entitlement that would rival the POSs at OWS.
You remind me of another city dweller commenting on the rural folks of this country:
“And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
That is so damn weak it is an embarassment. I grew up on a small farm, I own a small farm and I hunt with bow and gun and have a home full of game heads. No wonder we get rolled by the libs if that is the best you got. I don’t like meth smoking game poaching sexual perverts (fornicating with dead pigs is not ok in my book), now if you wish to defend them by all means engage in spirited yet civil debate.
Yah..and this will be the response of the RinoCracy to the threat of Constitutional Government...
