Red State and Free Republic Declare War on Mitt Romney Supporters for Some Reason [JR post 132]
Myth Romney Central ^

Posted on 10/29/2011 8:05:02 AM PDT by mnehring

Edited on 10/29/2011 2:08:48 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

The editors at Red State and Free Republic (among others) have had the wool pulled over their eyes. They seem to actually believe the lies originally propagated by supporters of President Obama and, in some cases, even by President Obama himself. Now, for some reason, these editors/moderators are so insecure in their prejudice against Gov. Romney that they ban people who openly support Gov. Romney. Free Republic (mostly because of it’s owner Jim Robinson) has purged all of the Romney supporters they could from the site in two waves of purges over the last few years. The anti-Romney and anti-Mormon bigotry evident at Free Republic now is absolutely sickening.

I haven’t been to Free Republic quite as much as I used to partly because I have been banned from posting. During the 2008 election, Mitt was accepted and lauded by many at Free Republic like he was by most conservatives. One of the best summaries of Gov. Romney’s accomplishments was actually from Free Republic. However, Jim Robinson seemingly fell in love with Sarah Palin and initiated purges of anyone who wouldn’t pledge allegiance to her. A few months back, I tried to make a new account and see if I could post about Gov. Romney’s jobs plan and I was promptly banned and called a few derogatory names implying that I was a Mormon. Besides the fact that I am not Mormon, I can’t for the life of me figure out how a site like that, filled with such hate, can find enough donors to keep it going. When I think of Free Republic, I’m reminded of the scene from Star Wars Episode IV where Luke is warned that he is entering “A Wretched Hive of Scum and Villany”.

Red State has been fairly hostile to Gov. Romney for awhile, but they have crossed into new lows now as well. The guys from WhyRomney.com [3] have been working very hard and diligently to refute some of the many misconceptions about Gov. Romney, and I hope this unfortunate episode won’t dissuade them or anyone else from trying to correct the people endlessly smearing Gov. Romney. What so many of these people who don’t like Gov. Romney don’t seem to realize is that they have been fed reasons to not like Gov. Romney by highly-funded democratic think tanks. It’s abundantly clear now, no matter what Rush Limbaugh says [4], that President Obama is scared to death of facing Mitt Romney [5] in the general election.

If you want to check out the three open letters posted to Red State, you can read the one on mandates and health care here [6], the one about abortion here [7], and the final one on miscellaneous issues here [8] unless Red State removes the posts now that they have cowardly banned the authors of the letters. Also, I’ve saved a screen shot of the admin belittling the efforts of our friends from WhyRomney [9] and giving his/her bogus reason for banning them which you can read here [10] just in case the admin tries to cover his/her tracks in shame. If you want to see how rude Free Republic is without actually subjecting yourself to the hate, just click here [11] for a screen shot of the reason they banned the author of a similar open letter.

I know there are bastions of bigotry against Mormons on other sites besides Free Republic and that Free Republic and Red State aren’t the only sites that have ever banned people they disagreed with, but I’ve concluded that they are the grandparents of this anti-Romney crusade that fortunately seems destined to fail. Some other sites seem predisposed against supporting Mitt, but not at the dangerous level of these two.

The motives of people like Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh [12] to not want Gov. Mitt Romney to be the GOP nominee are easy to understand (hint: they make more money with President Obama in the White House), but I believe many other sites and conservatives are simply following their lead reinforced by the disingenuous people at Red State and the sheltered leader of Free Republic. Most other conservative sites that support candidates other than Mitt at least vow to support Mitt if he is the nominee, but I worry about what is festering at Free Republic and now, Red State. Once our nominee is selected, we will need all hands on deck to defeat President Obama. The members of these two sites should realize how detrimental the actions of their leaders may end up being to the ultimate cause of making President Obama a one-term President. I hope they will ask for their leaders to act in a more responsible fashion.

WELCOME TO FREE REPUBLIC!

Major campaigns inevitably attract some kook opposition. For Mitt's campaign there are a few anti-Mormon types floating around, talking about cults and white horses but no one can credibly argue that's why he's stuck at 25%. e's stuck there because he is not trusted.

Four days ago, Fox released this poll (see Fox News Poll: GOP Primary Voters Propel Cain to Top of Pack):

It revealed that: Twenty-one percent of GOP primary voters have concerns about electing a Mormon president. Of those, twice as many cite Mormon beliefs as cite the candidate’s views. White evangelicals -- a significant voting bloc in several key GOP primaries and caucuses -- are about equally concerned about the candidate’s views (16 percent) as their religious beliefs (17 percent).

So what can we conclude here?
* Over 1 in 5 GOP primary voters have concerns about electing a Mormon prez.
* It appears that about 14% of GOP primary voters have concerns with a Mormon prez that focuses on their beliefs. That's 1 in 7 primary voters. [Way to label them "kooks"]

When we look at Evangelical voters according to this and another poll, it appears...
* 1/6th are concerned with a Mormon prez - primarily due to stances on issues
* 1/6th are concerned with a Mormon prez - primarily due to Mormon beliefs
* Per a PRRI poll...47% of Evangelicals don't even know Romney is "Mormon."
* That means only 1 in 5 Evangelicals who know Romney is Mormon don't have an issue with him.
The PRRI poll: ...showed that a majority of white evangelicals — 53 percent — now know that Romney is a member of the LDS Church. That’s a 9-point increase since July.
Source for this last bullet point: Evangelicals more aware of Mitt Romney's faith

Now 1/6th of Evangelical voters may not sound like much...until you realize that white Evangelicals were 44% of ALL voters in 2010! That could then translate into about 7% of all voters!

If you don't think 7% of all voters is a sizeable margin in a close race, think again. And it's possible that 1 in 5 voters -- all Evangelicals -- don't even know Romney is Mormon!

That appears to be changing. In the past 3 months, 1 out of every 11 Evangelicals have discovered Romney IS Mormon! The Jeffress comment has paid off!

And it's possible that 1 in 5 voters -- all Evangelicals -- don't even know Romney is Mormon!

I need to restate this for clarification.

The majority of voters don't even know Romney is Mormon.

And up to 20% of all voters...people who "ID" themselves are "Evangelicals"...don't know this.

Once this sleeping giant is awakened...and once they understand that Mormons think they are would-be gods with racist recent history, Romney's would be "had" vs. an opponent like Obama.

We don't have to be “fed” anything! The information about this RINO Romney is out there for all to read!

Romneycare
Signed anti-gun legislation in MASS
Was for abortion before he decided he was against abortions
Did not support the anti-union mandate in Ohio before he decided to support it

on and on it goes!

I would not vote for this RINO under any circumstance, he is Obama light, nothing changes with a Republican RINO in office, just look at Boehner, speaker of the house!

Romney can go to hell

There’s a big, immediate ramping up of experienced staff from a primary to general election, and it is quite credible that that’s where lots of MittWitts went, and that Palin sabotage is a lot of what they did.

The McCain staffers who dealt with Palin and had first-hand interaction with her would most likely have been with McCain from the start.

The Romney staffers who were closest to Romney would stay with his organization or go to other lower-level campaigns. So far I found one top staffer who moved to the McCain campaign. Doubtless there were others, but 80% -- that's ridiculous.

So could lower level former Romney staffers in the campaign have badmouthed Palin? Sure, but 1) who's going to believe them and 2) what does that have to do with Romney himself? Do you think Mitt called up his old advance man in Cedar Rapids or Kankakee and told him or her to make up things about Palin?

Moreover, there's a disconnect between the main assertion that there was some kind of organized anti-Palin campaign and the actual "evidence" which is one alleged ex-Romney staffer allegedly working for McCain saying that Romney would be the best candidate for 2012.

It's possible that could have happened, that somebody somewhere in the campaign talked Mitt up and Sarah down. But the idea that there was some organized smear campaign and that McCain staffers who attacked or put down Palin were Romney people, rather than simply core McCainites frustrated with Palin isn't proven.

This was an anonymous rumor spread by the "Washington Prowler" in the American Spectator. The 80% number came later and is almost certainly untrue. Anyway, I cherish the irony that the piece attacking rumormongers is itself rumormongering.

Clear and simple. Some people might call that genius. I think it’s just good common sense. This clarity and fidelity to principal is what made America the greatest country in the history of mankind and what makes FreeRepublic the greatest internet site in the history of the internet.

Obama doesn’t want to debate Romney? Laughable. They agree on many issues, and the Obama team will certainly point that out, essentially neutering Romney.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35J1vYzrQJw (Romney likes Mandates)

Look, when will some of you Romney people get past the idea that 2012 isn’t *just* about beating Obama? If that was the case, then go get Hillary to change parties and put an (R) next to her name, cause she could probably take down Obama also.

The reason Romney does so poorly with conservatives is for the simple reason that we don’t TRUST him! Don’t like Romney’s position on something? Wait a day and if the polls show you’re right, he’ll change it. Think Romney supports the same view as you on an issue? Wait another day and if polls show you’re view is in the minority, he’ll change it too. The man lacks principle.

The man is a walking fraud. In 2008, I watched this guy nearly pull off the ultimate scheme by convincing voters he was FAR more conservative than John McCain, when the record showed that both their views were pretty much the same. Romney fed on the natural disdain conservative voters had for McCain and tried to use it to his advantages. The Stop McCain with Romney Campaign was about as absurd and pointless as Operation Chaos was because in the end, your essentially ending up with the same thing.

A Romney victory over Obama in 2012 would be pointless to the cause of conservatives and the Tea Party. Romney would utilize the power of RINOs in the Senate (which could be as high as 11 or 12 members in a GOP-majority) to give him cover and avoid making the hard decisions.

ANY GOP Candidate SHOULD beat Obama in 2012, by carrying the McCain States, plus IN, NC, VA, FL, OH and 1 of the following states (NH, PA, MI, WI, IA, NM, NV, CO). Why you think Romney would be the only person to be able to pull this off is laughable. At best, I see him getting the bare minimum of 270 carrying the states listed above and NH, but nothing more. And looking at data from FL in 2010 and VA from 2009, I have serious doubts about him in those 2 states, and now he has recently shot himself in the foot in OH by flip-flopping on the ballot issue there.

It is the job of the Senate to approve candidates. If they vote for Obamas losers, we deserve what we get. What is worse than open warfare against the Constitution, is covert Progressives, pushed by Progressive RINO’s. They sneak their way into the USSC, then join forces with the so called liberals.

Romney is just as leftist as Obama is. If America is going to be destroyed, I would rather it be by a Dem than a RINO, especially one with magic underwear.

If Robamney is the nominee, I will write in a candidate instead.

Actually, in fact the writers of Star Trek made philosophical points while using a fantasy genre. Many of the episodes were rather erudite appealing on a different level to those who had a more classical education. Now as to the “works” of ol’ Joe Smith,Golden Tablet translator, unbelievable to anyone who had any sort of a traditional education.

I remember back in the day when Free Republic was about exposing Democrat liberals. Now it seems to be about doing everything to get Obama elected again because there is no way Cain will be the nominee and Freepers here have said they won’t vote for Obama.

The irony is pretty incredible.
