Red State and Free Republic Declare War on Mitt Romney Supporters for Some Reason [JR post 132]
Myth Romney Central ^

Edited on 10/29/2011 2:08:48 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

The editors at Red State and Free Republic (among others) have had the wool pulled over their eyes. They seem to actually believe the lies originally propagated by supporters of President Obama and, in some cases, even by President Obama himself. Now, for some reason, these editors/moderators are so insecure in their prejudice against Gov. Romney that they ban people who openly support Gov. Romney. Free Republic (mostly because of it’s owner Jim Robinson) has purged all of the Romney supporters they could from the site in two waves of purges over the last few years. The anti-Romney and anti-Mormon bigotry evident at Free Republic now is absolutely sickening.

I haven’t been to Free Republic quite as much as I used to partly because I have been banned from posting. During the 2008 election, Mitt was accepted and lauded by many at Free Republic like he was by most conservatives. One of the best summaries of Gov. Romney’s accomplishments was actually from Free Republic. However, Jim Robinson seemingly fell in love with Sarah Palin and initiated purges of anyone who wouldn’t pledge allegiance to her. A few months back, I tried to make a new account and see if I could post about Gov. Romney’s jobs plan and I was promptly banned and called a few derogatory names implying that I was a Mormon. Besides the fact that I am not Mormon, I can’t for the life of me figure out how a site like that, filled with such hate, can find enough donors to keep it going. When I think of Free Republic, I’m reminded of the scene from Star Wars Episode IV where Luke is warned that he is entering “A Wretched Hive of Scum and Villany”.

Red State has been fairly hostile to Gov. Romney for awhile, but they have crossed into new lows now as well. The guys from WhyRomney.com [3] have been working very hard and diligently to refute some of the many misconceptions about Gov. Romney, and I hope this unfortunate episode won’t dissuade them or anyone else from trying to correct the people endlessly smearing Gov. Romney. What so many of these people who don’t like Gov. Romney don’t seem to realize is that they have been fed reasons to not like Gov. Romney by highly-funded democratic think tanks. It’s abundantly clear now, no matter what Rush Limbaugh says [4], that President Obama is scared to death of facing Mitt Romney [5] in the general election.

If you want to check out the three open letters posted to Red State, you can read the one on mandates and health care here [6], the one about abortion here [7], and the final one on miscellaneous issues here [8] unless Red State removes the posts now that they have cowardly banned the authors of the letters. Also, I’ve saved a screen shot of the admin belittling the efforts of our friends from WhyRomney [9] and giving his/her bogus reason for banning them which you can read here [10] just in case the admin tries to cover his/her tracks in shame. If you want to see how rude Free Republic is without actually subjecting yourself to the hate, just click here [11] for a screen shot of the reason they banned the author of a similar open letter.

I know there are bastions of bigotry against Mormons on other sites besides Free Republic and that Free Republic and Red State aren’t the only sites that have ever banned people they disagreed with, but I’ve concluded that they are the grandparents of this anti-Romney crusade that fortunately seems destined to fail. Some other sites seem predisposed against supporting Mitt, but not at the dangerous level of these two.

The motives of people like Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh [12] to not want Gov. Mitt Romney to be the GOP nominee are easy to understand (hint: they make more money with President Obama in the White House), but I believe many other sites and conservatives are simply following their lead reinforced by the disingenuous people at Red State and the sheltered leader of Free Republic. Most other conservative sites that support candidates other than Mitt at least vow to support Mitt if he is the nominee, but I worry about what is festering at Free Republic and now, Red State. Once our nominee is selected, we will need all hands on deck to defeat President Obama. The members of these two sites should realize how detrimental the actions of their leaders may end up being to the ultimate cause of making President Obama a one-term President. I hope they will ask for their leaders to act in a more responsible fashion.

WELCOME TO FREE REPUBLIC!

NOTE: FR's "editor" (namely, me) is not shy about stating FR's conservative principles, purposes and goals or about stating why liberal progressive RINOS are not acceptable on FR and so adds the following links for reference:

That poster is obviously a mormon and was on here back in 2008 with "Mitt Romney Rocks" as her tagline.

A religious zealot who can't get past supporting a member of her church, even if the guy is a crook, liar, and con man.

In other words, a mental case.

When he was gov in Mass we had a significant flood in Greenfield. A person died and many lost their homes.

Mitt decided that he could be a more effective leader if he flew down to South Carolina instead of visiting the disaster site. Of course the trip to SC was to speak at a fundraiser.

It would have taken him an hour.

Actions, not words speak volumes about a man’s character. He showed his that weekend. I would probably stop to help him out of a ditch, but not a lot more. I would never, ever lift my finger to pull a lever for him.

No question about that. But this discussion is about Romney. We need to find a way to eliminate all of them.

Does Saundra allow anyone to come into her house and start saying anything they want? Even about Mitt? I guess she lives in a communist house, by her own admission then.

I guess you are correct on that. She certainly would refuse to allow Christianity to be discussed.

Do I get any hugs? :-)

I was not saying that she is new. I was responding to the thought that some folks have changed their views to conservative ones. It works both ways. ;-)

“What so many of these people who don’t like Gov. Romney don’t seem to realize is that they have been fed reasons to not like Gov. Romney by highly-funded democratic think tanks.”

Even Perry’s pastor said that if Romney ends up the nominee he would support him. That’s saying something for a guy who believes that all the Catholics and Jews are going to hell with all us Mormons.

We haven't been "fed" anything but O'Romney's own flip-flopping pablum. You have YET to provide your reasons for supporting him in a private message, why is that? I'm NOT voting for him, and guess what? IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HIS WHACKO RELIGIOUS BELIEFS! Apparently, some of y'all seem to find it impossible to believe that we have legitimate reasons to reject him. Here's my MAIN one:

He doesn't really know what he believes about ANYTHING and only goes where ever the winds of public opinion blows. He could just as easily run as a Democrat. So that is and will be his downfall. More and more people are learning this about him everyday. The snake-oil, used car salesman persona follows him because it IS who he is. I've said it before and I'll say it again -

GOP DON'T DARE PLACE ROMNEY AS THE CANDIDATE. I will write in someone else before I vote for him and if Obama wins, it's YOUR fault!!!!!!!!

Well, considering that polygamy was supposed to be an eternal ordinance- that 'gods' words according to joseph smith and that later prophets allegedly hearing straight from 'god' all reiterated polygamy would continue forever.

Or consider this - this 'evolution' was due to the US Gov't moving in on Utah to put the mormon president in jail along with the rest of the mormon leaders and disenfranchise the church.

Oh, they still have the scripture that 'god' revealed to smith as part of their scripture.

Well, the thesis of this article is that Obama is behind the anti Mormon, anti Romney trash. I think it’s something to consider.

Saundra, Saundra think this through. Why would Obama be behind anti-Romney politics BEFORE he was even named the Republican candidate? Has it even occurred to you that Obama would keep that kind of powder dry until AFTER? You're supposed to be smart, right? Think it through.

“Hold-your-nose-and-vote”, “Lesser of two evils”, “Just win” style thinking is what has brought this nation to this low point we’ve come to. No more moderates. No more RINOs. No more governing from the middle of the road. Mitt Romney won’t get a single vote from me. I would rather vote for an actual conservative that I have to write in rather than throw my vote away.

I agree with you completely! In fact, I got a call from a GOP support organization today asking for money. They asked a few questions about Obama and his policies and when they realized I wasn't for Obama, they started asking if I could spare some money for the Republican campaign fund. I told them IF I was going to send them anything it would be AFTER the nomination and then I added, “But if Romney is the candidate, then don't expect me to give and don't expect me to vote for him!”

The Palmetto Scoop reported: "One of the first stories to hit the national airwaves was the claim of a major internal strife between close McCain aides and the folks handling his running mate Sarah Palin." "I’m told by very good sources that this was indeed the case and that a rift had developed, but it was between Palin’s people and the staffers brought on from the failed presidential campaign of former Gov. Mitt Romney, not McCain aides."

"The sources said nearly 80 percent of Romney’s former staff was absorbed by McCain and these individuals were responsible for what amounts to a premeditated, last-minute sabotage of Palin." … aides loyal to Romney inside the McCain campaign, said The Scoop, reportedly saw that Palin would be a serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 or 2016, which made her a threat to another presidential quest by Romney.

McCain/Palin was leading in the polls, thanks to Sarah and her alone. Romney's people sabotaged Palin non-stop, and the market drop caused McCain to roll over and cry uncle.

Romney and his people are at least half responsible for Obama's election.

Well if Romney gets the nod most certainly we would vote for him.... but like this...

Nope! I held my nose last time voting for McLame - wasted vote - not just because Obama won but because the RINO establishment did NOT get the message that we won't vote for another RINO. NOT AGAIN!
