Scott Olsen is the Marine Corps veteran critically injured at Occupy Oakland Tuesday night, during a confrontation between the protesters and the police. The latest news is good: his condition has been upgraded from critical to fair and he is apparently conscious and able to respond to doctors and family members. I sincerely wish him a full recovery, and I also hope that a proper investigation is conducted to determine whether police misconduct is responsible for his injuries.
But I ran across something this evening that may add a new dimension to this story. It has been widely reported that Olsen is a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War. But apparently his opposition to the U.S. military and the Marine Corps in which he served runs a little deeper.
The site is no longer live, but Olsen was the founder of IHateTheMarineCorps.com, a private user forum apparently dedicated to bashing the Marine Corps. (click to enlarge)

If this is true...then F him. He’s nothing more than a traitor.
I don’t think hospitals can release any info other than if he is there or not.
Marine ping
once upon a time I was indelibly taught...
...1-2-3-4 I LOVE THE MARINE CORPS!
Too bad this maggot remained just that A MAGGOT.
Interesting he takes the name “Ahab”—shades of Ray Stevens:
“Let me tell you ‘bout Ahab The Arab
The Sheik of the burning sand
He had emeralds and rubies just dripping off ‘a him
And a ring on every finger of his hands
He wore a big ol’ turban wrapped around his head
And a scimitar by his side
And every evening about midnight
He’d jump on his camel named Clyde...and ride”
No, if I’d seen me at that point, I’d probably have run screaming!
Exactly,, unless the patient gives permission to the hospital. And I am not clear on whether this "fractured skull" report came from the hospital. News reports I have seen have not said specifically that this report is from a hospital spokesperson. And that's why I must wonder if this is a diagnosis from one of his lefty buddies that has been reported by the lazy MSM as fact.
When they refer to Jews as “Hebrews,” this is never a good sign. For some reason, a lot of real nutcases seem to like this word.
Olsen was awarded seven medals while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, which he left as a lance corporal in November 2009 after serving for four years.
He went on two tours in Iraq, one in 2006-2007 and another in 2008, where he worked as a data network specialist. He was awarded seven medals, including the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal, according to the Marine Corps.
Olsen moved to the Bay Area in July, and quickly found friends in the veterans against the war group.
* also, states he hails from Onalaska, Wisconsin..i think pretty liberal part of the state?
We are in agreement.
Actually, I read a report very early this morning - which must have been officially released, because it was in some local CA press source - that he had no cognitive problems, could count, do long division, recognized everybody and had no speech problems.
I think he got a whack on the head and realized that this was his golden opportunity.
I read the report at 5:30 a.m. Eastern time, which would mean 2:30 a.m. in CA, but I don’t recall noticing when it was posted. In any case, it came from a press report, so it’s no big secret (or wasn’t as of 5:30 a.m.!).

if true, then he crossed the line and is unworthy of that respect. He is sounding more and more like a Jeremiah Wright kind of Marine veteran and if so, only deserves our abject opposition to his anti-American views and actions.
He was with an anti-war group, who were illegally gathering and trying to illegally occupy a park from which they could conduct their anti-American protests with OWS.
As such, he was injured as the police attempted to uphold the law.
The hospital has confirmed Olsen was hurt during the protest, but could not say how he was wounded.
And:
Keith Shannon, 24, who said he served with Olsen in Iraq, told Reuters his friend suffered a two-inch skull fracture.
Lastly:
Olsen served two tours in Iraq from 2006 to 2010 with the 3rd battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, Shannon said, adding that he and Olsen deployed together and were assigned to a tactical communications unit.
2006 to 2010. That's some mighty long tours.
The clash between Oakland police and Occupy Wall Street protesters left a Marine veteran who completed two Iraq tours in critical condition Wednesday after he was struck by a police projectile, a veterans' group said.
Scott Olsen, 24, suffered a fractured skull Tuesday as he marched with other protesters toward City Hall, said Dottie Guy, of the Iraq Veterans Against the War.
hmmmmmm
I think it should read he served two tours between 2006 - 2010. You can’t be deployed your entire enlistment. First you have boot, then your MOS school. Typical journalist stupidity.
According to his “Linked In” page, the six “medals” he received are:
Navy Achievement Medal
Multiple certificates of commendation and letters of appreciation
Global War on Terrorism Medal
Operation Iraqi Freedom Medal
Good Conduct Medal
Navy Unit Commendation

Indeed.
Why then the nice Police officer who shot him with a gas canister should go introduce himself to the man’s fellow marines,I am sure they will treat him like a hero.
It’s not clear what happened to him at all. I have heard three versions: 1)hit by police tear gas canister, 2)tripped and fell and/or 3)hit by something thrown by another dupe.
