Whirlpool Corp , the world's largest appliance maker, slashed its full-year profit forecast and said it would cut about 10 percent of its workforce in North America and Europe, to protect margins in a weak economic environment.

The maker of Maytag and KitchenAid appliances will cut more than 5,000 positions and said it would close down its plant in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and reduce its overall manufacturing capacity by about 6 million units.

Look in the dictionary under fascist corporate capitalists. You will see General Electric as the defining example.

GE we bring evil to life.

OK.

Just saying. I’ve seen you pretty eagerly rush to support the foreign position on a couple threads now.

Seemed like a sort of reflexive awe for things foreign.

Foreign does not mean good.

And yes, been all over as well. Made me a gung ho pro-America conservative. We’ve got the best country in history here.

We seem to be doing everything possible, to tear it down.

Sending everything which made America strong and great to competing nations, does nothing good for America.

I guess you’ll end up paying more for less then.

Interesting.

You’ve traveled, and think we should continue doing what we’re doing?

Really?

No one forces anybody to do anything, these companies are welcome to depart, just pack up and take their families with them. I have no problem with them leaving, just as long as the managers and the owners and their families live in the same hell holes where they are getting their slave labor.

And they can sell their crap anywhere they wish, but the united states.

Import tariffs would cost me money. I like to save money.

American companies who must hide behind tariffs are not worthy of being alive

If companies can’t compete, they must die

Of course, there is a large contingent who think that losing American jobs is somehow good for America.

That's what the people who are in favor of raising taxes on them think. Spare us.

Crap. I purchased a very expensive WideBySide Maytag Refrig, just before they sold, IT WAS the biggest lemon I had ever purchased. Nothing but problems and rust.

Just last week, I purchased a plain jane KitchenAid refrig. Just damn. I suspect it to fall apart now right after the warrenty is up.

Specifically your support of the British guy above insisting (cheeky Americans) should support “free trade”, and the warm cross-cultural reception you seemed to share with the Chinese propaganda guy last week.

Anyway that’s what. :)

Try selling 'free trade' and 'comparative advantage' to China, Korea, Taiwan, or Japan. They'll laugh in your face.

Uh, the U.S. just signed a FTA with S. Korea. And if you seek to emulate Japan, you don't know jack about economics.

Import tariffs do not increase taxes on Americans.

Import tariffs increase taxes on importers.

No tax, on anything made right here in America...

Import tariffs do not increase taxes on Americans.

Just keep repeating it, Dorothy. LOL Then, explain to me how doubling the price I pay for gasoline is not a "tax."

Interesting that there is nothing in your comment addressing ‘free trade’ or ‘comparative advantage’.

Tariff money should not go to the government. It should go to trade R&D groups that must invest the money developing proprietary technologies, such as robotics and automation, so that local industries can compete again with imports. The tariff should be temporary and taper off at some point. Developed technology should have high strength intellectual property protection mechanisms, should be banned from export, and should destroy itself if not re-certified periodically.
