How so? The criteria relates to the length of time for the word "yom" in the Genesis text.
In exodus and Deuteronomy, there are passages saying “6 days [yom] shall you work, but on the 7th you shall rest”...
man... do I have to work 6 “old earth days” before I rest?

Each of the first 6 days has closure, a passage that definitively ends that day:
Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.The seventh day doesn't have the same ending statement. The only closure is God ended His work and rested. Judging from the state of the world, one could argue that He's still resting.Genesis 1:8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
Genesis 1:13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.
Genesis 1:19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Genesis 1:23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
Genesis 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
