Rick Perry’s new economic plan won’t revive his campaign
WaPo ^ | 10/25/2011 | Ed Rogers

The best thing that can be said about Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s economic plan and its Tuesday rollout speech is that before now, he didn’t have a plan, and now he does. He can check that box. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, and, as a good Republican, I support everything he said. The problem is, we have supported it all before. Our voters want and appreciate creativity. This didn’t offer much in the way of anything new. This program is Steve Forbes-lite. But it is what it is. Now he has to stick with it. “Cut, Balance, and Grow” is a good slogan, but this plan will only be a net plus for Perry if, over the next few weeks, he can recall and defend the details on live TV with smart, semi-hostile reporters asking the questions.

From behind the podium, Perry looks great. He looks so much like a Hollywood-produced president, he makes Mitt Romney look grunge. But Perry’s speaking style Tuesday was not reassuring. He appeared to wander at times, and he had the occasional aside that didn’t fit the speech very well. I couldn’t tell if he was using a teleprompter. If he wasn’t, he needs one. If he was, he needs to practice with it.

I don't know what you mean. I take revenue neutral to mean that it will maintain the revenue at its current level. So, if you cut taxes, as Perry's plan does, you'd expect the revenue to ultimately increase. I'm certainly not a tax expert, does revenue neutral mean something different?

This thread needs way more Perry-shootin-guns photos.

This is a better shot of Rick Perry. That's him with the sweater. Sitting. On the desk.

I can understand that you and others don’t like Rick Perry, but I don’t see why it’s necessary to destroy everything he stands for or has accomplished. He’s not a gifted debater nor the most articulate person seeking the nomination, but he has other qualities that are admirable. If you don’t like Perry, don’t vote for him, but be fair. He is not the enemy! I had hoped to learn more about the candidates here, but so far, I’ve found people doing the same things they accuse Perry of doing...taking cheap shots and being mean-spirited. I don’t include you in the group, but some of those attacking him for not being smart etc. haven’t displayed an abundance of smarts themselves!

I don’t see Perry supporters attacking Cain and calling him names like the supporters of Cain are doing. I haven’t decided how I’m going to vote, but I won’t be casting my vote for the “most brilliant” or the “the most intellectual”. We have a history of electing people who are supposed to be so brilliant, and they’ve been a disaster for the country...Obama, Clinton, Kennedy, Woodrow Wilson, and, in my opinion, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. I’ll make my decision based on the person’s character and their real conservative values as I understand them. Neither will I vote for someone the media has decided should be the candidate.

Perry’s ‘plan’ increases revenue, we need to decrease it.

What happened to the WaPo not being a serious source?

Oh, I see. If the article bashes Perry, then they are serious.

I am so glad I saw his speech for myself and know that the implications that it wasn’t substantive or well delivered are a dam lie.

It was extremely impressive and well delivered. It reminded me of Reagan. Same speaking style. No rapid fire delivery, just a few pauses for effect and to wait until the applause died down.

But I guess you guys have the deepest respect for the WashPo or will until tomorrow when they go after your guy.

South, my FRiend, I know that you won’t be influenced by me, nor Rush, nor Mark, nor many other well known conservative voices. I’m simply pointing out that many conservative voices think that Perry is conservative and that his plan is good.

Besides, is that not in line with the topic of this thread (started by you)?

When asked, all he said was that he hadn’t seen zero’s BC. As a candidate, he could present his original BC to the press for personal examination and ask that obama do the same. Not release it on the internet.

We need to payoff debt and balance the budget: lower taxes and economic growth with increased revenue will get us there faster.

Thrown under the bus by the Cain worshippers.

Mark Steyn
Rush Limbaugh
Mark Levin
Brit Hume

Just a bunch of idiots.

And I could point out that many if not most conservatives at FR do not agree with RINO Rick. I just don't see the point.

Besides, is that not in line with the topic of this thread (started by you)?

No. The point of this thread was that Rick Perry’s new economic plan won’t revive his campaign, not what Rush or Levin have to say. But you and all other 'non-Perry supporters' are free to take from it whatever you will.

Hey, altura, you are a really smart young lady... love your opinions.

By the way, I was hoping (eons ago) for a Palin/Perry or a Perry/Palin ticket for the best looking twosome ever.

Wonder if Palin would consider coming on board with Perry?

She might for a candidate she respects and I know she likes Perry.

Then you need to pay better attention.

This was is left of a thread started by one of Perry's most vocal supporters.

Thank you for that post. The hatred for Perry is sick on this forum.

I know it is probably only about 20 people but they post constantly and get nastier and nastier.

And you are right. The Perry supporters here (some of whom have backed away from posting because of the abuse) are never hateful and ugly about Cain.

I’m probably one of the worst as I have serious doubts about the man but I never tell lies about him or make fun of him.

Anyway, I appreciate your rational viewpoint on all this.

There are quite a few people who have acquired the distinction of ‘not worth responding to.’ You know who you are.

Yes, everyone needs a compliment now and then and I feel I deserve one for hanging in here and defending Perry against idiots. Yes, idiots.

Not calling Cain an idiot. He’s not and I’ve never said so, but his supporters ...

I just hope he doesn’t ask you people to follow him over a cliff.

WaPo was good enough for your fellow La Raza ick Perry supporter, Clairity. As was the La Times, NY Compost, and every other liberal source she could find. If La Raza Rick supporters live by liberal sources they can die by them as well.
