Time magazine columnist and CNN host Fareed Zakaria says Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain’s “9-9-9” tax reform plan is “sloppy and, in parts, bizarre.”
So he offered his own version of a tax reform plan in his weekly column in Time. In it, Zakaria argues that Americans should give the federal government half of what they inherit.
“I would enact a 50 percent inheritance tax, because nothing is more un-American than an inherited elite that perpetuates itself,” Zakaria wrote for the magazine.

Because there’s always some portion of the population who thinks they have a right to tell other people how to live.
Fareed should go back to the toilet he came from and get to work fixing it first. Then he can instruct us.

Why only half, Fareed? Where did you pull that number out of? Why not 3/4 or 7/8? What a moron.

Just as with the thought that “the rich need to pay more in taxes,” this inheritence plan has the same goals in mind: a shakedown. When the government is spending money, there is no end in mind, only the thought of how to keep feeding the hungry beast. There is no accountability, no responsibility, and not even a thought to whether an arbitrary amount such as 50% will be enough to satisfy greedy folks such as Fahreed. They’ll never say “50% is plenty,” because it won’t be long before someone decides that there’s really no reason to leave ANY inheritence. After all, in a truely democratic and egalitarian society, shouldn’t we ALL start on a level playing field?
Let’s think about what he REALLY means.
IF “perpetuating an inherited elite” is unamerican, then takimg 50% isn’t enough.
A guy inherits $1 billion and he keeps $500 million. He’s still an inherited elite.
So his “logic” really leads to the confiscation of ALL wealth.
Today, when government takes so much up front, there is nothing left for the children. Social Security is not only a Ponzi scheme, it is designed to eliminate personal savings and legacies. If you personally saved what is being "so called" saved for you (15% Social Security & Medicare), you would have a much higher rate of return, and if you died before you used it all, it would go to your heirs. If you die early today, and haven't used all of your Social Security, it goes to the government (100% inheritance tax).
Our current inheritance tax scheme is also designed to destroy legacies. If the head of the family is also a small business owner or family farmer, the heirs end up having to sell the business or the farm just to pay the taxes, even if they were working, side by side, with their parent, in the business or on the farm.
Talk about hyperbole! Nothing is more unAmerican than leaving your wealth to your kids?
Guess he never heard of Nazism, fascism, communism, theft, murder, rape, rigging elections, despotism, socialism...
I can run a damn long list of things that are more unAmerican.
He just helped the republicans create the perfect campaign commercial. This quote from Zakaria along with that picture of obama carrying his post-America book. I don’t think Americans from all walks and all classes will support giving half of their hard earned assets to the government when they die, rather than their children and grandchildren.

Fareed, you could enact a 100 percent inheritance tax and income tax as well and the US government will still run annual deficits. There is never enough crack for a crackhead.Revenue is not the problem. Congress is.
