CAIN ADDS TO '9-9-9' PLAN, ANGERING UNIONS
Fox News ^ | Published October 20, 2011 | James Rosen

Taking aim at minimum wage laws, union protections, and even local building codes, Herman Cain has put the finishing touches on the last missing piece of his signature “9-9-9” plan – an elaborate proposal to create “opportunity zones” in inner-city America that the GOP presidential candidate will unveil during a major campaign appearance in Detroit on Friday morning.

Cain hinted at the move during Tuesday night’s GOP debate in Las Vegas. He and his aides hope the details they provide about their plans to encourage growth in impoverished areas will deflect the surge of recent criticism branding “9-9-9” as unfair to the poor.

But details about the opportunity zone proposal, as obtained in advance by Fox News, will likely make “9-9-9” more, not less, controversial, particularly with organized labor.

To qualify for zone status under Cain’s plan, a given jurisdiction will have to enact policies the unions consider anathema – such as the elimination of the minimum wage, the provision of school vouchers, or the declaration of a zone as a “right-to-work” area.

Johnnie, take your head out of your butt - and listen up - I’m not for Perry or any candidate. Unlike you I don’t rush to support someone because they tickle the ears. And stop spamming this thread - it’s your mo and leads to me think graffiti is your thing in real life. Unlike you, Patriots read the small print - something that’s over your pay grade.

I thought it sounded familiar. I wonder if Clinton's Empowerment zones were Laffers idea also. Cain needs new advisers.

*************************

Makes sense, Greenspan admired Clinton and Cain admires Greenspan.

Cain on Greenspan: “the best the Federal Reserve has had in the past 40 years”

This Greenspan:

Former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan Thursday offered a spirited defense of the controversial H-1B program program, telling a U.S. Senate subcommittee that the visa quota is "far too small to meet the need," and that it protects U.S. workers from global competition, creating a "privileged elite."

The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World

Of all the presidents with whom he worked, he praises Bill Clinton above all others, saying that Clinton maintained “a consistent, disciplined focus on long-term economic growth.

(Wow, what about Reagan?)

“Republicans deserved to lose the 2006 elections.”

1998 bailout of Long Term Capital

Some industry officials said that Federal Reserve Bank of New York involvement in the rescue, however benign, would encourage large financial institutions to assume more risk, in the belief that the Federal Reserve would intervene on their behalf in the event of trouble. Federal Reserve Bank of New York actions raised concerns among some market observers that it could create moral hazard.

LTCM’s strategies were compared (a contrast with the market efficiency aphorism that there are no $100 bills lying on the street, as someone else has already picked them up) to “picking up nickels in front of a bulldozer” – a likely small gain balanced against a small chance of a large loss, like the payouts from selling an out-of-the-money option.

make repairs to the nation's infrastructure more cost effective and piss off labor unions

You're right - that is a win, win.

“If it POs labor unions, it must be good.”

Nice. I can add Unions to Illegals and Muslims as areas where Cain is far superior to his competition.

I also like it that he understands the politicization of building codes (probably from his restaurant past), and the damage done by the minimum wage. Two areas that NONE of the other Republicans will get near.

My problem with Cain is every curtain you pull back lies a democrat lover. I just don’t get it. Is he a Republican or a Closet Democrat.

I can hear the media tomorrow.
REPUBLICAN Cain proposes scrapping minimum wage in empowerment plan. Creating Business Slums. Oh yeah and then the talking heads will claim ALL Republicans are in favor of slums. Just watch. The msm is evil.

I *LOVE* it! Get the kids to work young! No unions! Parental school choice!

Now we just need this for the rest of the nation! :)

“Why don’t we just get rid of prevailing wage rates (Davis-Bacon)? This would benefit the entire country, save tax dollars, make repairs to the nation’s infrastructure more cost effective and piss off labor unions. It’s win -win-win-win all the way around. “

Get rid of Davis Bacon and we’ll be able to DOUBLE how far our highway money goes. Given what Cain is saying about the minimum wage - I know he GETS IT and is ready for the huge fight ahead.

I also wonder about the ‘right to work’ thing.

I personally believe all states should be ‘right to work’, I would love to see that as a federal law but is this trying to over-step state law and infringing on states rights?

Unions ONLY exist out of the pleasure of the federal government. The feds can rework the laws protecting them into ANYTHING, and the unions can take a hike. The feds could even outlaw unions (by making them again subject to anti-trust laws) - something I’d LOVE to see.

Texas is Right to Work and it’s great. People still get paid well but if they are lazy there is no union to bail them out.

He doesn’t talk about his religion other than to say he Baptist.

I don't care about his religion - it's more that his church supported Obama and their black power message as they need to 'keep on fighting'. And gave the glory to God that a black man is in the WH. Doesn't matter who it is - as long as it was black. Al Sharpton, Jesse, Wright all preach that message.

No what is growing crazier is the pathetic attempt to lie about 9-9-9 by the Perrybots.

1987 Reagan Enterprise Zone= Federal Regulations Relaxed

This was NOT part of a tax plan by Reagan.

1993 Clinton Empowerment Zone= Tax Reduction

YOU provided the link. I suspect you thought no would read it. So now Cain is taken pages out of the Clinton playbook, but does not want to call them "empowerment zones."

Absolutely. Davis Bacon is the biggest scam going that no one ever talks about. Our government decries our crumbling infrastructure, but willfully pays twice the going rate to repair it. Suppose you drove an old junker that badly needed a brake job, a new transmission, maybe a new exhaust system, but you only will take your car to a mechanic who agrees to charge you twice the market labor rates. That is Davis-Bacon in a nutshell.
