Marie, save your post because you will need to re-post it a lot I think.

I can't complain about our local schools too much, my son graduated with enough AP credits to eliminate a year of college. His ACT was 32. I think its school curriculum, teachers, students and parents working together.

The public school system is failing our children

ALL children, not just some.

The voucher system doesn’t pander to the ‘poor’. Every child benefits. The money is attached to the child, not to the school district. The parents chose their children’s school from a variety of options.

Well, let's see what Cain says would grant waivers to some failing public school systems.....many of whom do not have the economic means of attending better schools.....The voucher system, called the “Opportunity Scholarship Program,” allows students from financially troubled homes to attend private schools,

Just because he’s forcing the issue in a few particularly hard-hit areas doesn’t mean that he’s pandering to anyone.

Of course not, it's important for you to take him at his word and what you think you know of him.

Cain’s end game is to do away with the DOE completely.

And how long do you think that will take - IF EVER. If he has those he considers 'disadvantaged' - taken care of - you think that will be his top priority?

Everything that Cain is presenting is a START.

And who/where have been his chosen 'starts'?

In the end, it’s genius. We move hundreds of thousands of people off the tax-payer’s support. We motivate an entire generation toward self-sufficiency. We prove success in a few areas and strengthen our argument so that we can move the entire nation.

Obama's voters thought the same. They assumed one thing while Barry meant another.

We all win.

That is YOUR HOPE. Others see things differently.

I don’t have a problem with giving a voucher to a deserving kid.

And who gets to decide who is deserving? Being shabbily dressed vs. the clean/neat kid? That would be profiling - wouldn't it? Or when handouts are on the agenda - that no longer applies?

"To qualify for zone status under Cain’s plan, a given jurisdiction will have to enact policies the unions consider anathema – such as the elimination of the minimum wage, the provision of school vouchers, or the declaration of a zone as a “right-to-work” area.

Reagan had the same idea. This is a stake in the heart of the socialists/communists - I'm not sure why people on FR are bashing this???

Now I remember this. Reagan was going to ease federal regulations and the tax burden to businesses in depressed areas. This was to provide jobs in areas known as enterprise zones. The idea was to rebuild the blighted areas.

Those that earn it

How does one earn it? I don't understand that.

Its not about race or class warfare.

It's not about it for who? You or is it written somewhere?

From the article: The document envisions Stakeholder Leadership Teams, comprised of entrepreneurs, trade groups, community leaders and church elders, forming in a “respectable number” of zones across America, each responsible for submitting detailed plans to “the highest levels” of the Commerce Department and the White House on how they would reduce “barriers” to economic growth.

Reagan would not have gone for submitting plans to the highest level of the Commerce Department. He despised bureaucracy.

I believe you would have to for a while, just to keep it from being scammed. It is an incentive, not an entitlement program.

Based on what Cain says here

Vouchers in DC public schools made a better future for kids
D.C. Mayor Williams in 2003 helped initiate a system to provide more than 1,000 vouchers per year to poor children in the failing public school system. The voucher system, called the “Opportunity Scholarship Program,” allows students from financially troubled homes to attend private schools. Williams received the expected outrage and criticism from the teachers’ unions, but he knows that education and doing all he can to provide a better future for D.C.’s children is more important than politics.

I’m thinking that there are grades or skills involved.

But, again, we do not have any details yet. I’m just trying to piece together things he has said. Vouchers for school of choice. Not sure of this means that different schools would be ‘different’.

I just know that there are impoverished cities all over and they are not all inhabited by blacks only.
