The afterglow following Tuesdays Republican presidential primary debate didnt last long. The general reaction was that all the sniping back and forth made the whole event look like an unstructured free-for-all, which doesnt help the opposition partys argument that it is a sober, responsible alternative to the indiscipline and inexperience of the Obama era. This was partly the fault of CNNs Anderson Cooper, who did a poor job keeping the discussion on track. However, it also was the result of a Grand Old Party that is getting increasingly frustrated over its inability to settle on a standard bearer.

Of all the imperfect people on the ticket, I think that I can forgive Newt the easiest if he does not backslide, which is the risk for all of them I suppose. I felt most confident that Palin would not backslide because she has been tested before, and was not found wanting. But from the list of people available, I go with Cain, Newt, and Palin, though I’m still waiting to be convinced by any of them.
Democracy is the worst possible system for selecting a leader, except for all the other systems.
Go ahead everyone, crucify me for asking, where the heck is she? Who is she now? Hmmm?
As much as I like Sarah I can never support Gingrich, the man who sat on the couch with Nancy....
Define the pronoun “she” please.
I highiy respect both, but they would be electoral disaster, imo.
Sorry. No Newt, no way. WAY too much baggage.
As I consider the other candidates, Gingrich looks better and better to me.
Bachmann/Palin/Gingrich, pick any two... and you’d have a better team than the current crop of RINOs, cronyists, tax raisers and race baiters.
Gingrich would be great playing the Cheney role for Palin, but I’m not sure how we get to there from here.
I’m not sure why we have to hurry up and declare one standard bearer. There’s still plenty of time for a solid candidate to rise to the top.
Kindly read my tag line....
No Newt is good Newt.
Newt is obviously the most experienced and knowledgeable person on the panel.. I hope Newt wins..
Palin only said that Newt won the debate but she later said that she doesn’t think that Newt will win the nomination.
That means she isn’t going to endorse him or probably anybody for that matter. She just a few weeks ago, also blasted how the GOP establishment tried to sabotage her and shackled her when she was the VP candidate. What makes anyone think that she wants to get ramroded again by the GOP elite? Plus she doesnt play second fiddle to any one anymore, she has her own message
These words are going to fall on deaf ears around here on FR
“As much as I like Sarah I can never support Gingrich, the man who sat on the couch with Nancy....”
A lousy decision to be sure, but Newt is FAR better than Romney, Perry, Huntsman.
Can you imagine the debates between him and Obama? Talk about bitch slapped. I’d vote for him just for the good tv
The only "Perfect" Man was crucified over 2000 years ago. Get real. Get on to what will work not what is supposed to be at the end of an imaginary rainbow.
Serious question, RIghtword Ho...what are the items of baggage that concern you? I have my concerns, but I keep wondering if maybe I don’t know what everyone is thinking when they talk about baggage. I shouldn’t assume they are the same. Willing to share?
That is true, but my standards are still well above “scumbag”.
I don’t think two lightning rods on the same ticket would lure the middle.
