"The precedence that Obama has set is the execution of foreign leaders, something even the cowboys Reagan and Bush never did." Worse than that, it's the deliberate murder of allied foreign rulers who were fighting for and with us in a deadly serious war against a bunch of totally evil seventh century subhuman barbarians.

So Gaddafi should have had a “fair trial” that would have taken years instead of flat out killing him

This event reminds me of Mussolini when Italy was fed up with that Nazi dictator and a huge mob killed him.

It was not pretty but he had it coming just like Gaddafi

Dictators don't need a “trial” , they are guilty as sin,

Trials just give them a platform to gain sympathizers.

Hitler never would have come to power if he hadn’t stood trial for the Beer Hall Putsch.

Well, all things considered, he had a good run for a thug terrorist. Lasted a long time. Died relatively quickly.

It’s gonna be a long eternity for him, tho.

Mob violence? The exection was carried about by the government forces that had been fighting for weeks to take Qadaffi's home town. By all reports, the fighting was fierce and desperate with many of Qadaffi's forces fighting fanatically bent on dying rather surrendering. The government forces took heavy casualties.

I don't ascribe what happened to Qadaffi as mob violence, but the execution of a despot who was dispatched summarily with a shot to the temple. They were meteing out justice. Hell, we had been bombing Qadaffi for months trying to kill him and his forces. This was not a criminal matter. We have been killing American citizens using drones.

Here is a excellent report on what happened today.

Headshot: The body of former Libyan Leader Muammar Gaddafi lies in an ambulance as it is brought to hospital in Misrata, a bullet hole visible in his temple

If you think that was bad, wait and see what the new boss has in store, especially since they are taking over the whole region. This muslim brotherhood is going to be ten times worse once they are backed by the UN and up to speed.

Mob justice is no justice. There are roving gangs of thugs in the US who would kill Sarah or Rush if they had the opportunity.

Give me a break. Qadaffi was a cruel despot who ruled Libya for over 40 years killing and torturing tens of thousands of its citizens. He also killed Americans in Berlin and in the skies above Scotland. Comparing him to Sarah or Rush is beyond stupid.

Justice by a military court leading to a firing squad is acceptable justice. Mob rule is not, ever, under any circumstances.

Acceptable to whom? Justice by a military court? Why not immediate exection on sight? NATO has been trying to kill him for months. We just killed two American citizens in Yemen without any trial or reading of Miranda rights. Qadaffi was at war with the Libyan people. He opted to fight to the death rather than surrender. Get off of your moral high horse.

There can be no closure for families who have suffered injustice at the hands of evil men when they are murdered by lunatics. Justice, meted out by law, is the only form of retribution that mitigates injustice.

Pure BS. Qadaffi was not murdered by lunatics. He was killed by the forces of the recognized government of Libya who had been fighting for weeks around Sirte. NATO air strikes halted the convoy that was trying to escape the city. Mussolini suffered a similar fate. I have been watching the coverage by al Jazeera. I can tell you that the celebrations going on in the streets of Tripoli and elsewhere have provided all of the needed "closure" and other psycho-babble for the people of Libya. They don't need some sort of Stalinist show trial, just the pictures and videos of a very dead Qadaffi.

Already a monument: As celebrations continued, more and more graffiti appeared at the entrance to the drain where the leader was eventually found

I think the nature of the crowd was demonic. Just because Gaddafi was evil doesn't mean the rest have to follow his example. I fear what kind of leadership will take his place with that kind of mentality.

It seems like I have been told that several times today. I was just happy that he was gone - I realize that most of the crazy, dark ages, evil murdering muslim extremists are still out to kill us.

Are you sad or something? You think he should’ve had his day in court? aww

Not in the least. I was just considering all the abject hate Bush incurred from the capture/trial/death of Saddam Hussein from the left, juxtaposed against Obama coming out and claiming victory when Gadaffi's captors simply blew him away. I don't give a damn for him or his corps, yet I'm a little peeved that no one on the right (except in posts here) is bringing up the vast hypocrisy obvious on the left.

After all, in the first instance justice was served. In the second, it was really murder as I pointed out. So...where are they?

You are dragging yourself through a sewer to justify slaughter as a response to slaughter. He was murdered by a gang of thugs after capture.
How dare you twist my words to comport with your jaded world view. I am not comparing Rush and Sarah to Qadaffi. I AM comparing the thugs who killed him to the thugs who would kill our own if they had the chance.
You are the one on a moral high horse here, not me.

That "gang of thugs" were operating on behalf and the behest of officially recognized goverment of Libya. They were supported by NATO air strikes and advisors plus given weapons. Your effort to delegitimize them is intellectually dishonest.

How dare you twist my words to comport with your jaded world view. I am not comparing Rush and Sarah to Qadaffi. I AM comparing the thugs who killed him to the thugs who would kill our own if they had the chance.

The US "thugs" don't have the approval of the US government or the world community. You persist in calling the government militia forces who beseiged Sirte and liberated Libya as thugs. Qadaffi and his fanatical supporters are the thugs. You are defending the indefensible.

You are the one on a moral high horse here, not me.

LOL. I am defending the actions of the government forces who meted out justice to a ruthless dictator who had killed and tortured tens of thousands of Libyans. Moreover, we have been trying to kill Qadaffi and his supporters for months. We have been using lethal force on a daily basis. And I doubt that anyone in NATO will decry or denounce the summary execution of Qadaffi nor will the government of Libya do so.

No, and had Ghaddafi been killed in the apparent air strike that would not have been murder either. But had both Bin-Laden been taken alive as was Ghaddafi, then summarily shot by one of his captors while in custody, I'd say both were given treatment beyond what we in the west should consider proper. I have no trouble with killing in a military operation; Nor do I have a problem with putting them on trial, finding them guilty, then executing them. But taking someone prisoner, then killing them out-of-hand when captive is not something I condone. Once in custody, I feel we should be more humane than giving our forces a green light to outright murder. Do we really want lower ourselves to the level of these pigs in our thoughts and actions? I would hope the Geneva conventions still mean something here in the western world...
