Andrew DiMarzio just wants to ride the bus with his tenor saxophone, but the 12-year-old Massachusetts boy claims he's been told to cut the music or get another ride, so to speak.
Cathy DiMarzio, of Raynham, said her son recently was told that his 31-inch-long, 12-inch-wide saxophone case would no longer be allowed on Bus 9 within the Bridgewater-Raynham Regional School District because the bus is filled to capacity and the instrument creates a safety hazard.

I am telling you they would never have pulled this crap if he was not a white male child. Female, no way. Minority, no way.

Well my daughter would be right out! She plays the tuba.
Seriously, he can't be the only bus rider with a musical instrument.

Even if it didn’t fit under his seat, couldn’t he hold it in his lap?

"I got yer safety problem , right here!"
Uncle DiMazzio needs to "talk" with someone so the little boy can blow in peace.
Where I came from you didn't mess with the band, we even helped our football team beat up a rival team after a game one time ( a sax in it's case did get run over by a bus in the escape however)

There are alot of fat people with limited mobility that would create safety hazards in case of an emergency.
To: redreno
There may not be a gentle way to put this, but the Raynam-Bridgewater school district is the kind of place that would elevate the football team over the band or the chess club, shall we say.

My daughter brings her sax every day on a filled-to-capacity bus, and there has never even been the whisper of an issue. As a matter of fact, there are several saxophones brought on her bus. Several of her bandmates live in the same neighborhood. Im so happy to have left that state. It blows my mind how people who claim to want so much tolerance have so little.

I guess I will get hate mail but I agree with the bus transportation supervisor. And heaven forbid a parent take the responsibility of their child. It is dangerous to have a large band instrument transported via the school bus. Most schools do not allow anything but the student and their books transported. The seat belt issue has been studied many times over. They claim the bus seats are designed in such a way (higher backs, closer together, etc.) so that seat belts are not necessary. And for what it's worth, statistics prove that the students are safer on the bus than in their parent’ car.
