Damn...
Pinging the Ohio list..
A Hinckley woman died Tuesday morning after she was struck while standing on a darkened road and directing a school bus carrying her two children.
Diane Plumlee, 54, was struck by a passing pickup truck about 7 a.m. at the intersection of West 130th Street and Crestview Road. She died later that morning at Southwest General Hospital, according to Hinckley police.
She was a widowed mother of two girls and a boy. She worked at the Akron Institute of Herzing University.
Plumlees husband of 19 years, music teacher E. Gustavo Plumlee, died in August following a heart attack. He was 46.
Diane Plumlees two oldest children were aboard the Brunswick City Schools bus with four other middle school students when the accident occurred, said police Chief Tim Kalavsky. The youngest child, 11, was at home.
Its very tragic. And now this happens. Its going to be a tough time for the kids Im sure, Kalavsky said.
The school bus had turned east onto Crestview Road and stopped near the West 130th Street intersection. At some point, Plumlee stood in the northbound lane of West 130th Street, apparently to help guide the bus back onto the 35-mph road, police said.
The bus had yet to back out when Plumlee was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck. The driver stopped at the scene. Police did not release the drivers name pending the outcome of the investigation.
Kalavsky was unsure why Plumlee was helping the bus or whether it was a daily occurrence.
It appears as though [the bus driver] may not have had anywhere to turn around as she headed down that street, Kalavsky said.
After the accident, Plumlees children were taken off the bus and returned home.
Please remember this is still an ongoing investigation, Kalavsky said. Were still learning a lot of things about this.
Brunswick school officials did not immediately comment on the circumstances leading up to the accident. In a statement, Superintendent Michael Mayell said counselors were available at all city schools.
This is indeed a tragedy, and we are truly saddened by this, Mayell said.

Me too. Had an impulse to make a post about some Hinkley, Ohio birds, but I was able to resist it.
I just want to cry for these kids. They lose their Dad in August and now their Mom. Prayers for them since their young lives will be very difficult for quite some time. This is just a horribly sad story.
Prolonged EDT strikes.
In any tragedy...
...the taxpayer must be punished!
Yup. Sunrise at 7:43 today in Hinckley.
Another thing I'm wondering about...why was the bus in a situ that required it to be backing up?
Per the link in post #5...Police said this was the first day for the bus driver on this route.
So that sorta' explains why/ how the driver got the bus into the mess of needing to back up. Big questions remain about some very apparent lapses in the school district's bus driver training practices. Obviously the new driver did not know the route.
Anyone know if it’s common practice for the cops to keep a lid on the name of the driver of the vehicle?
I’m familiar with the area. Crestview Dr. is a dead end road. I had read somewhere yesterday that the driver was a substitute and that the regular driver normally stopped on W130th at Crestview.
My hunch is that the substitute read the route incorrectly and turned onto Crestview by accident. That’s why the lady was trying to help the driver back onto W130th.
This is just a tragic story - 3 children losing both parents within a few months.....
Here’s a link to the local paper. It has a photo of the scene showing the position of the bus on Crestview Dr.
To protect him from crazy media and the public if he/she was not at fault? Nowadays having your name made public under certain circumstances can be devastating.
Three children are orphaned -- and you use that as an excuse to hijack the thread with your pet gripe.
Way to go! :-(
Greetings elli1:
Not sure backing a bus is unusual. Bus picking up my across the road neighbor’s children backs up at our barn driveway. Otherwise twenty miles is added to the bus route.
Cheers,
OLA
RIP.
