Reid Offers Teachers' Salaries as First Vote on Obama's Divvied-Up Jobs Bill

Senate Democrats will try to move a component of President Obama's $447 billion bill -- $35 billion in aid to state and local governments to rehire or retain teachers and first responders -- as early as this week, disappointing Republicans who say another piece of the apple would've had a better chance for success.

"Our economy cannot afford to lose any more jobs," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Monday, vowing to hold a vote "as soon as possible," and promising one provision per week when Congress is in session.

"The bill we are introducing today continues that focus by creating or saving approximately 400,000 jobs for teachers, cops and first responders," the Democratic leader promised.

The people that get my property tax payment tell me that is what pays teacher salaries.

So, what will the “teachers salary” part of the jobs bill really be used for?

Shoring up the teachers and the union for an Obama victory. Wanna bet this is American taxpayer stimulous money going right back into paying for votes, you know for the shovel ready jobs. Can we see the transparency?

They tried this in Los Angeles when they took the “stimulus” money and dumped it down the pension fund toilet instead of hiring or retaining teachers. And now Ubama and the rats want more? Yeah, Reid’s new slush fund should do the trick.

/facepalm

Teachers’ salaries should be paid ONLY by their employer/district. This is a feeble attempt to keep the NEA endorsing 0bama for re-election. And it makes me sick.

"Our economy cannot afford to lose any more jobs,"

The first thing that has to be said is that government jobs are not "jobs." That is, they may be necessary (police, fire, military) but they don't create wealth. Taxing the wealth-creating part of the economy to maintain non-wealth-creating activities, in the name of "saving jobs," is nothing short of stupid.

the issue here is that local jurisdictions have decided after considering all the data pertinent to their area, that they can not afford the expense of these teachers, etc, Why should the federal government extend the inevitable reduction in force and as a result override the decision of the local jurisdiction. It will only “support” that job for another year anyway. Let these people move on

“That is, they may be necessary (police, fire, military) but they don’t create wealth.”

BS. They don’t have to save like I do or contribute and make wise investment decisions. You should see the retired police, fire and teachers’ homes that surround me! They are living large compared to most private sector folks. Three or four cars, paid for homes and Cadillac health care. Retire in my 50’s? Keep dreaming. It’s not envy, but just d@mn! Fair is fair, and this ain’t!

"The bill we are introducing today continues that focus by creating or saving approximately 400,000 jobs for teachers, cops and first responders."

Why, oh why, is the federal government involved in these jobs that should be the responsibility of the city/county/district tax payers? And if the federal government funds these 'new' jobs, what happens to the newly employed once the funding is gone? Oh wait, I know. They become the newly unemployed.

“Our economy cannot afford to lose any more jobs,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Monday

and his solution is to put them on the federal payroll.

Well, yeah, the newly hired will be unemployed - but the great thing is, the union pension funds will be flush, and Zero’s campaign chest will be overflowing -

What a deal for Americans! We have the opportunity, once again, to line the pockets of Zero and his thug union friends.

I think I have to barf.

After the program expires in one year, the states will have to carry the burden.

The GOP should amend the federal program to be for ten years!

That would shut the Dems up.
