The letter that urges action but does not define it?
Now, you act as if Perry was the actor who was the precedent of the fiscal crisis.
Next you will tell me that Parry was the very architect of the crisis and then you will tell me he is a rude and cant string 3 words together.
Gov Rick Perry (then head of the Republican Governors Association) and Gov. Joe Manchin (then head of the Democrat Governors Association) wrote to Speaker Pelosi after TARP failed (Sept 29, 2008) and the markets were faltering, requesting:
[morning of Oct 1, 2008]: "We strongly urge Congress to leave partisanship at the door and pass an economic recovery package...It is time for Washington, D.C. to step up, be responsible, and do what's in the best interest of American taxpayers and our economy." http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/8878/perryletter.jpg
To wit, Associated Press headlined the letter: "Governors, Business Up Pressure for Bailout Bill"
Gov. Perry immediately issued a statement to make his position clear to the MSM:
In a free market economy, government should not be in the business of using taxpayer dollars to bail out corporate America. Congress needs to take off its partisan gloves and work together to bring both short and long term stability to the credit markets. They need to stop blaming each other and start thinking about solutions that put the taxpayers of this country first. Gov. Perry, Oct 1, 2008
Which brings me to recent quotes made by Gov. Rick Perry and one made by Herman Cain and where I see stark differences. I'm sure in the coming weeks as Gov. Perry and Herman Cain give policy speeches, we'll all have a better picture.

Ill work to try to make DC as inconsequential in your life as I can. -- Gov. Rick Perry, announcing his bid for the Republican nomination for President August 13, 2011
Americans created those jobs Texans created those jobs, because we allowed them to have an environment where they werent over-taxed, over-regulated, over-litigated, and then we got out of the way and let the private sector do what the private sector can do. -- Gov. Rick Perry, South Carolina town hall meeting Sept. 5, 2011

The role of government, in my view, is to maintain an equal balanced playing field for the citizens and for our society. Not to throw it out of balance. -- Herman Cain, John Stossel Fox Show, July 12, 2011
Wednesday, October 01, 2008 Press Release
AUSTIN Gov. Rick Perry today issued the following statement:
In a free market economy, government should not be in the business of using taxpayer dollars to bail out corporate America. Congress needs to take off its partisan gloves and work together to bring both short and long term stability to the credit markets. They need to stop blaming each other and start thinking about solutions that put the taxpayers of this country first.

The letter you speak of by Perry and the other Governor did not support Tarp. It was vague but it did not support Tarp. The Above Press Statement was issued to clarify that
---------------- I cannot find the transcript but I watched the interview:
Recently, in his interview with George Stephanopoulos, he was asked about bail outs. Perry said he was against bail outs. George asked what if they are too big to fail.
Perry if they are too big to fail then they are too big. Perry said under his presidency there would be no bailouts, not to Europe, not to Greece, not to GE etc.
