A Somerville principal has opened fire on cherished American holidays, blasting legendary explorer Christopher Columbus for atrocities and saying we need to be careful about celebrating Thanksgiving in a scathing email to teachers who are already under orders not to let the kids dress up for Halloween.
When we were young we might have been able to claim ignorance of the atrocities that Christopher Columbus committed against the indigenous peoples, wrote Kennedy School Principal Anne Foley. We can no longer do so. For many of us and our students celebrating this particular person is an insult and a slight to the people he annihilated. On the same lines, we need to be careful around the Thanksgiving Day time as well.
Mayor Joseph Curtatone said, She raises a fair point. History is messy. School Superintendent Tony Pierantozzi said her intention is to be very, very sensitive to all of the many, many cultures of Somerville. Foley said she just wanted to open up a conversation.

I betcha when they study Indian tribes, they skip anything that has to do with these tribes waging war upon one another for no good reason. Columbus brought a mixed bag to the New World, but had it not been for the exploration and (hey it ain’t a bad word now) occupation of the New World the Indians would still be doing that, and the Aztecs would still be sacrificing humans by ripping out their hearts alive, and Arab traders would still be kidnapping and selling black slaves, and....
That’s why I say, “Get you kids the hell out of public screwels fast.” This woman should be fired.

My kids would have told the teacher that....mom was smarter than the teacher and they knew that...thats being a smart parent...:O)
You forgot the blue and yellow equal sign and the rainbow sticker
This so called “teacher” is spreading a culture of self-hate in that school system. Anti-Western nonsense that this nitwit teacher learned in whatever useless university she got her education degree from.
Anne Foley should be beaten about the head with a frozen tuna.
We pay for these people—and yet keep taking it.
The DNA now seems to indicate that the ancestors of “American Indians” originated in Central Asia and crossed the Bering Sea. I was deployed there, to Uzbekistan. Local employees joked that it was really Uzbeks who defeated Custer at Little Big Horn.
Anyway, this teacher is not atypical, unfortunately. Right up there with those who ban red & green sprinkles on the Christmas (excuse me, Winter Solstice) cookies.
Happy Columbus Day, youse guys!
Somerville—more and more like Cambridge every day.
how much do you want to bet she is pro abortion.
I believe that it just serves those liberal idiots in Mass. just right. They keep voting for the Democratic machine and they continue to get this kind of crap only now it is getting worse. They kept voting in Ted Kennedy, they keep voting in John (did I tell you that I am a veteran) Kerry. I lived 8 years in New Hampshire and Mass. was always a joke and a mess. Democratic corruption and bilge. It is not just in the public schools, it is in everything that the Gov’t touches. And they are okay with it. Truly these people deserve what they get.
“I have friends that are Native American.....”
I would bet money that all of her friends are lily white.
Some educators are actually able to overcome their “education” degree.
Obviously, this principal was not.
She is a bimbo, pure and simple, and as such, qualifies to replace Nancy Pelosi whenever that idiotess kicks the bucket.
Every christian on FR should be happy they are banning halloween.Halloween is a day people celebrate witchcraft and the devil. Any christian that celebrates halloween isn’t a true christian. Jack van imp says so.
