The meteoric rise of Herman Cain and his 9-9-9 plan continues, as the former Godfather's Pizza CEO is now the leading candidate in Iowa, according to recent polling numbers.

The Public Policy Polling poll, conducted Oct. 7-10, polled 311 probable Iowa caucusgoers and found that 30 percent would likely vote for Cain, the Atlanta businessman. Mitt Romney was second with 22 percent and Ron Paul rounded out the top three with 10 percent.

47% of voters pay zero in income taxes. What will it be like when 55-60% of voters pay zero in income taxes, and can vote themselves benefits from the government without any worries about where the money is comming from? The chart below is based on the pre-obama growth rate of non-taxpayer voters--this is where Republicans policies would take us (Democratic policies would take us the same place, just more quickly). Herman Cain's 9-9-9 plan is the only one that solves this problem:

7th state for Cain. He’s leading in VA, GA, SC, NC, WV, NE and now IA.

I’m thrilled Cain is doing so well. I hope he keeps it up and fends off the coming pile ons of future debates.

My guess is he is leading in more than just 7 states. He would beat Perry in Texas without a doubt. Perry is know for the dud he is in his home state.

“The Minnesota congresswoman’s campaign has lost all momentum and could be only a matter of time before she ends her pursuit of the White House — especially if her campaign is running out of money, as rumored.”

Bye-Bye, Miss American Pie.

311 people were polled? That’s not a very big sample. I wouldn’t get too excited Cainiacs.

I hope so, but I’m going to be pessimistic until I see a poll with him leading.

I should be happy because I’ve had one foot on the Cain Train, but I just cannot get behind the 9% sales tax. I do not like his explanation that if you don’t want to pay it, buy used goods. I think that’s detrimental to manufacturing, and it’s a tax I do not want to pay. I know my income tax will be lower, and I’d be psyched to lose to death tax (paid it once already), but a national sales tax is not good. It’s just not.

What is the “growth of non-taxpayers” based on?

Mitt is moribund. In a 5 year-long campaign he cannot get past 25% approval. Which means 75% are split between the other candidates. When reality sets in and the also rans fall out - the most effective GOP candidate will emerge with 65% leaving Mitt at 25% and Paul 10%.

However, I don’t see Mitt quitting before the convention. Unlike Cain and Newt, he has not presented any innovative ideas during this long slog - no blockbuster breakthroughs - just same ol’ same ol’.

From the article: “The declining popularity of Perry and Bachmann could give Romney an outside chance to win the Iowa caucus ...”

Well, I think that’s a nutty conclusion, really nutty. Romney’s entire campaign hinges upon two or preferably three conservative candidates splitting the 70% of the vote that’s in the “anybody but Romney” camp. The rapid decline of Perry and Bachmann together leave Cain free to pick up their votes, because most of them are unlikely to go to Romney. Of course, I could be wrong. But it looks like it’s already happening, if the poll is to be believed.

"Based on this poll, Romney would win a match-up against Perry, 46-37, but would lose to Cain by 10 percent."

A clear sign that there's no way Cain can win and he needs to pull out and endorse Perry.

If I know that some hood buying soda pop and chips with their EBT gets hit with the 9% sales tax, i can live with that.
