Arrest Bush, Amnesty asks Canada

From correspondents in Ottawa AFP October 13, 2011 5:03AM

AMNESTY International has called on Canadian authorities to arrest and prosecute George W Bush, saying the former US president authorised "torture" as he directed the US-led war on terror.

Mr Bush is expected to attend an economic summit in Surrey in Canada's westernmost British Columbia province on October 20.

London-based Amnesty made a case for Mr Bush's legal responsibility for a series of human rights violations in a memorandum submitted last month to Canadian authorities but only now released to the media.

"Canada is required by its international obligations to arrest and prosecute former president Bush given his responsibility for crimes under international law including torture," Amnesty's Susan Lee said.

"As the US authorities have, so far, failed to bring former president Bush to justice, the international community must step in. A failure by Canada to take action during his visit would violate the UN Convention Against Torture and demonstrate contempt for fundamental human rights." Ms Lee said.

Amnesty, backed by the International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group, says Mr Bush authorised the use of "enhanced interrogation techniques" and "waterboarding" on detainees held in secret by the Central Intelligence Agency between 2002 and 2009.

Order of Canada? He’s not Gretz, or even Ken Dryden.

Let me suggest that the summit itself is more important than this nonsense. Both Bill Clinton and W. Bush will be speaking there, and I strongly suggest that their mutual theme will be “North American Economic Integration”, i.e. expanding NAFTA. Revitalizing the Mexican Plan Puebla Panama, the “Texas Corridor”, and maybe even the insidious “Amero” currency.

Internationalist [expletive deleted]. These people never stop in their fantasies of regionalism eventually resulting in One World Government, lead by the same imbeciles that are currently guiding the world into a multi-generational economic catastrophe.

It never ceases to amaze how utterly naive such people must be, how stupidly idealistic.

Meanwhile our esteemed Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Conservative, stands steady at the helm. Defence Minister Peter McKay, has performed a inductees drill with the Canadian military. True, one might say photo ops etc.

Surprising these birds did not go after the Iranian Minster( cannot spell his name off hand). After all ten to one, he participated in the hostage taking of the American Embassy staff. Was on American soil.

Anyway President Bush is welcome in Canada. Those Canadians who do have reservations, should of course mind their manners. He will be a guest. This they will do.

We had enough of the sociopaths at the G20 Conference in Toronto. Amnesty International indeed. Maybe their boy Mahar Arar will give them a donation. He took Canadians for ten million dollars after he got sent back to his home country, from New York. Canada got the blame. Claimed he was tortured badly, ten months in a filthy cell. One wonders why he looked like a matinee idol after a week back in Canada.
