I’m starting to see a certain kind of blind devotion to a candidate (the kind that cannot handle any criticism whatsoever) that I used to see given to Sarah Palin. Man, I hope we’re not going to have to go through that stuff again!

We will have to go through it again. It's like the actual object of their affection is beside the point. It's their NEED for someone to elevate and admire that is driving it. No vetting. No skepticism. Just utterly blind, misguided faith. Now they're gonna go on the rebound with Mr Federal Sales Tax, setting themselves up for their next disappointment.

I'm on the fence. But I would very much like to know:

Why you think you're qualified to make these kinds of psychological evaluations of other FReepers you've never met or interviewed? and
Why you believe it's smart politics to call potential voters names or impugn their beliefs or motives because they don't agree with you?

Conservative opposition to Perry -- toward whom I was leaning and could still be brought back -- centers around two things: 1) His very poor debate preparation and performance, which does matter and 2) His willingness to give preferential treatment to illegals over American citizens in 45 other states.

There is no excuse for the former. As Perry supporters keep saying of Cain, "this is the big leagues." Well, that being so, why has Perry been so ill-prepared to engage the other candidates? You don't go to the show if you can't communicate your message; and right now, Perry is making the Bush family look articulate.

As for the latter, his response was an infantile and infuriating slander right out of the Democrat playbook: "People who don't agree with giving illegals free college are heartless." Really? We can be called racists by Democrats -- and it's an effing LIE -- so there's no reason to hire someone from our own ranks to do it.
