Attorney General Eric Holder, in his most forceful comments to date about the gunrunning probe known as "Fast and Furious," defended himself Friday in a letter to Congress and accused his Republican critics of making "irresponsible and inflammatory" claims.
The Justice Department released the letter late Friday. It was addressed to top Republican and Democratic lawmakers, and comes in the wake of GOP calls for a special counsel to be appointed to investigate Holder's involvement.
Republicans have released routine memos that appear to show Holder was notified about details of the program as early as summer 2010, though he testified to Congress that he only found out in early 2011.
Holder stood by his claims in the letter.
"I have not spoken at length on this subject out of deference to the review being conducted, at my request, by our Department's Inspector General. However, in the past few days, the public discourse concerning these issues has become so base and so harmful to interests that I hope we all share that I must now address these issues notwithstanding the Inspector General's ongoing review," he wrote.

Right, anybody who holds Holder and his minions responsible for giving guns to murderers is "irresponsible."
We know, of course, that he is lying his a** off and knew about it and him and Bozo probably planned it together.
However, either way you look at it, he belongs in jail.
LMAO!!
He's defending Fast and Furious. Wow.
“Holder, by his nature, is hubretic and a liar and an intriguer.”
A perfect alter ego for Obama.
Informative post. Holder knew, and since he plainly asserted that nothing could be more important than this topic, there can be only two interpretations: (1) his boss knew or (2) he failed to keep his boss informed about a key international commitment. He can't have it both ways.
“Pretty pathetic attempt if you ak me.”
You’re right. It is sophomoric and peevish. Nowhere near as polished as you would expect from someone at his level.
A most excellent post.
“So...as Renos Number 2 at Justice at the time, do you really THINK Holder had no place in the events at Waco?”
Holder did not become Reno’s Number 2 at Justice until 1997.
Philip Heymann was # 2 from 1993 to 1994 when he was succeeded by the infamous Jamie Gorelick who served till Holder took over.
Like they say you are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts. The rest of you comments are not on the subject of Ruby Ridge or Waco.
If anyone is at fault for the clearing the government at Waco it is Danforth and the US Attorney Bill Johnson (who failed to turn over some evidence , but particularly Danforth who has done as much to screw up the oversight of Bill Clinton’s government as anyone.
Looks like the WH has a big problem. Ms. Attkisson is immume to the stream of favors that they pass out in return for favorable coverage.
He didn’t forget his marxist talking points about ‘gun control’ though. Why let a crisis go to waste?
Eric Holder was the US Atty in Washington, DC, where the Ruby Ridge matter was referred for investigation. Holder recused himself. So, you are correct; he was not directly involved. I have not been able to find a stated reason for his recusal.
IOW, direct from the pen of Eric Holder, one should conclude that the ends justify the means. That is his closing paragraph.
Thanks for the reference.
*#!@*%% seems to be very popular in the regime. No surprise that the media is not shocked — I guess they are used to it.
