Cain Says He ‘Would Not Be Comfortable’ As Perry's Running Mate
National Journal ^ | October 6, 2011 | Lindsey Boerma

HOUSTON -- Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Thursday that he would definitely consider an invitation to run as the eventual nominee’s vice president, except if the nominee turns out to be Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Cain, who rocketed to the top tier of the GOP field in several recent polls, was asked by reporters on the campaign trail for his thoughts on a hypothetical invitation to run as the eventual nominee’s No. 2. After offering the obligatory comment that he intends to be the nominee, Cain said, “Quite frankly, based upon Gov. Perry’s position on some issues, I would not be comfortable being his vice presidential nominee.”

Those issues include Perry’s moderate stances on immigration. As governor, Perry supported legislation offering in-state college tuition for the children of illegal immigrants, which has become a flash point in his campaign. Cain said, “Issues relative to being soft on the border, issues relative to the whole, you know, tuition for children of illegal aliens. And I haven’t totally gone through all of his positions, but a lot of positions I have questions with.”

Cain, who is black, was critical of Perry after the Washington Post reported Sunday that his family owned a Texas hunting camp once known as “Niggerhead,” a word that was also painted on a rock near the camp’s entrance. Perry has maintained that his father painted over the word as soon as he bought the property in the 1980s. And Cain subsequently said he believed Perry’s explanation.

Of a vice presidential slot in general, Cain said, “I would not say no to being vice president of the United States. But it would depend upon who got the nomination. I will support who gets the nomination. I know I have said that there are some people right now who I cannot support, but I wouldn’t say no to it. I could say yes. But it has to be someone who I believe I can complement them in their job by being able to bring my skills to the table.”

Again, I expressed no outrage. I simply said that I did not like a person when they were accusing me of latent racism. I can define how I interpret attacks. I've explained in detail now why calling me "insensitive" to "blacks" is in my opinion accusing me of latent racism.

Outrage is when you say "I can't believe he called me heartless, it hurts me so bad I can't see straight".

And you once again accuse anyone who doesn’t agree with you of acting solely on emotion, loyalty, etc. While you assume that you act rationally and without loyalty or emotions. The “cult of personality” label you throw at others is just your way of attacking other people.

Once you play the race card on someone you may safely assume that they won’t be including you on their Christmas card list

I agree...Cain played the race card and it bit him in the butt when Blacks in TX took up for Perry.

Do you know how many replies I’ve gotten to the posts with pictures of the border? About building the bridge there?

No...I’m not telling yet. You guess.

NO! I’m not telling yet.

Did you guess?

Was your guess ‘zero’ (that’s null set; zero with the ring knocked off?).

If so, you’d be correct.

Why is that, do you think?

May be Perry should bring some of these pictures to the debates and on the campaign trail just to show the futility of building a fence on the Texas-Mexican borders.

Yup, that will really help him, more "no we can't" agenda. In Herman Cain's America we can do anything we set our minds to. If we really want to fence and seal our southern border, we can. If we really want to drastically change our putrid tax system, we can and he's proposed one way of doing just that. If we really want a balanced budget, we can get it.

We are the Country that once set incredible goals and then went on and achieved them. There are few people now in politics who have a clue on how to turn around a bad situation into a success and that's just what our Country needs now.

Lets quit electing the same type of career politicians that we've been electing over and over again expecting different results. That's crazy!

We need new thinking with bold leadership and Herman Cain is the only one showing any signs of offering us these qualities.

To use my Mama’s saying, “That little crumb-dum!”

How dare he say that he has not looked, but that Perry is not strong on border security?

When has any candidate in the past said similar about another before the primary?

From post #243 from DTxAg to MNJohnnie...

"...And you once again accuse anyone who doesn’t agree with you of acting solely on emotion, loyalty, etc. While you assume that you act rationally and without loyalty or emotions. The “cult of personality” label you throw at others is just your way of attacking other people..."

See? I'm not the only one who sees it!

You keep rollin', you wonderful thing, you!

I replaced the word Cain with the word Obama in your post, and it reads just like something from a Dem site in 2008. The “no we can’t” variation of “Yes We Can!” was a nice touch.

Of course people from other states can have in state tuition if they go to a Texas high school for 3 years. In fact, they only have to live here 1 year, with or without attending or graduation from our schools .

Right, and even though they were lying, they won in 2008.

We have the ability to build a fence but it's impractical to build one in the areas that are very rough terrain. Here's our federal dollars at work where there is a fence.

Why does it surprise some that when election season rolls around, people who haven't done so in the past might sign up to a political-based website? Heck, I've lurked here for years but didn't sign up until this year.

Quite a few years back when I was young, my family and I vacationed in the area where a number of these pics were taken.

Thank the good Lord for National and State Park facilities, but you talk about remote, harsh, no-man’s land as far as the eye can see.

After awhile you think you must be dreaming, what you’re seeing can’t be real.

I’m trusting Cain less and less. He has a problem with Perry but not Romney? There is just something really off about that.
