Yes. but it’s the vicious posts aside from the silly names that really get my goat. The ones in which we call each other names for supporting one or the other of the candidates....and question one’s conservatism or patriotism for that support.

Might I infer something from your screen name — as you might infer something from my tag line. LUV W. rwr and gwb backer.

You and I are both RINOs, remember. Jorje Bush. El Presidente. I know George W. Bush made mistakes about too much spending and being too soft on immigration.

Yet it seems keeping the country safe for nearly 8 years after 9-11 meant nothing to the purists.

“I hear you. The rest of the world hears you. And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon.”

History will give that steely resolve more weight, ultimately, than the GWB mistakes — which admittedly weren’t trivial.

Yet the arrogance of purism has been going on for a while. It culminated with the venom of the Palin acolytes against anybody who had the temerity to keep an open mind about whom to support — or even worse — who supported somebody not named Palin.

OK, so Palin isn’t running. So be it. I would have voted for her in the general — enthusiastically. I’d vote for any current GOP candidate in the general, other than Huntsman or Paul. Not sure about Gov. Johnson — don’t know enough yet.

Any of the others — they are light years better than President Obama. They have my support vs. any Democrat.

It’s time for all of us to grow up and grow a pair. The stakes are too high. I want an ultra-conservative in there as well. But if I have to settle, I have to settle. I’m tired of settling. But the worst president of all time MUST be voted out and confined to one term.

The 3rd-greatest American president ever once said:

“You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children’s children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done.”

Lexington. Concord. Valley Forge. Yorktown. Antietam. Gettysburg. Ford’s Theater. Belleau Wood. Pearl Harbor. Midway. Guadalcanal. Omaha Beach. Bastonge. Inchon. Khe Sanh. Manhattan. Shanksville.

The U.S.S. Arizona still holds her heroes in a silent grave. The U.S.S. Yorktown slumbers to this day at the bottom of the Pacific. White crosses outnumber the living residents of Colleville-sur-Mer. The World Trade Center exists only in memory and images.

Too many patriots have died for us to be so childish and petty that we lose sight of the peril that faces our Republic.

Will we waste our “brief moment”? Or will we stand up for our “shining city on a hill”?

-George
