“Most Christians would say that there is only one savior and that he fulfills that role for all nations.”
I think most Christians are aware of the difference between the savior of our souls and a temporal savior of our country from the evil influences that have ruined it.
“I think the idea that a political candidate can be considered a “savior” is dangerous and totally at odds with what America is supposed to be about.”
Nonsense. We are not a democracy. We are a representative republic, which means that we recognize that some people are are more suited to the business of governing than others.
There is nothing in the concept of a great leader who will pull us back from the brink that is antithetical to what America is supposed to be about.
Right now, America is not what America is all about. A leader who could drain the swamp and restore the Constitution as the law of the land could reasonably be called a savior.

DSC, this is exactly what Mitt Romney literally believes about his own campaign. He believes he is fulfilling prophecy and will ‘save the constitution’ when it is ‘hanging by a thread’. I have seen people who put Palin (and a few others) on pedestals of this type and they always fall. Our Savior is the only one who can save us, not a politician and that includes this country as well.
The danger in your view is that it feeds the arrogance of politicians and that is the last thing we need.
