here is nothing in the concept of a great leader who will pull us back from the brink that is antithetical to what America is supposed to be about.

DSC, this is exactly what Mitt Romney literally believes about his own campaign. He believes he is fulfilling prophecy and will ‘save the constitution’ when it is ‘hanging by a thread’. I have seen people who put Palin (and a few others) on pedestals of this type and they always fall. Our Savior is the only one who can save us, not a politician and that includes this country as well.
The danger in your view is that it feeds the arrogance of politicians and that is the last thing we need.
“The danger in your view is that it feeds the arrogance of politicians and that is the last thing we need.”
The logical error in your argument is this: you are saying that because dipwads like Romney can develop delusions of grandeur, we should never admit that there could be great leaders.
There can be, and we need one now. Too bad that there is no one among those vying for the Stupid Party nomination who could be even a marginally adequate leader.
Not a single one of those reprobates is fit to hold public office.
Your argument that “Our Savior is the only one who can save us, not a politician and that includes this country as well”
is equally flawed.
Our Lord does what He does, and Caesar does what he does. Nowhere that I have seen does Our Lord say, “If Caesar is a horrible tyrant, I’ll take care of it. You don’t have to do a thing.”
