Not stupid., Freeloaders. WV is the Welfare State.
That’s not entirely true.
Trust me, I’m originally from VA and thought the same way until I got up here and saw the problem first hand. These people are old style Democrats. They’re socially very conservative and fiscally conservative in their personal lives, but they don’t trust Republicans because the Republican party is linked to the Mine Owners, who have a very bad history up here. It’s the same mindset that resulted in VA’s 9th District electing Rick Boucher year after year after year. This State can be won, but it’s going to take work at the local level to undo the damage that the Republican party did at the turn of the 20th Century.
Yes. Rt 35 runs from I-64 near Charleston, WV to Dayton. or Columbus if you fork off to Rt 23.
The truck traffic is horrific. The last count was 5,000 per week I think. I was traveling 35 to work for the past 7 years. Thankfully changed that last July. It was the worst traffic on a two-lane road I’ve ever traveled. I would have a mile or more of nothing but trucks coming at me at night. Somebody is killed on it at lest once a month. Well, they built the four-lane for 14 miles and stopped. Said there was no money to finish it and would have to place a toll on the new section in order to get the rest paid for. The citizens (Tea Party) rose up and said, “NO”. We know now that they did have the money but spent it to finish a road that runs by one of a state democrat politician’s house. A road to nowhere actually. So the trucks keep lining up on the last 14 miles of two-lane and killing people, so the good ole boys in Charleston can get their pound of revenge on Mason Co. It’s war.
Thank you for jumping in to help me promote our town. I’m on the Tourism committee because I love this place, although I’m not a native of WV. Do come back and Freepmail me when you plan to come and I will give you a personal tour of the place.
Sad
Tomblin’s family used to own an amusement company. You don’t survive in that business without mob connections. That was sold. His family is now in dog racing.
Vote fraud has a long history in WV especially in the southern counties. The FBI has nailed some county officials in the past. My guess is that Tomblin’s “extra” votes are the only thing that won the election. In a sane world, certain issues with this election would draw federal attention.
Baber ran against mountaintop removal. To be kind I’ll say Baber is a character. There’s quite a few stories circulating about some of his problems. If you do a google seach you’ll need to drill down to page 9 or farther for the eye openers. Look for revenge and a wolf.
This is exactly the problem. The locals understand that someone has to run the mines, but the Republicans didn't do a good job of linking the Democrats to Obama's EPA mess. Conversely, the Democrats played up the "Republicans = Businessmen = EVIL" meme and it worked.
Had the Republicans consistently hammered the Democrats on the EPA mess, Obama's attacks on coal and the resulting lack of jobs, they would have walked all over the Democrats. That's their weakness in WV and it needs to be exploited to the max.
I'll take you up on that offer then! I'm not a native either, but as I'm from the coalfields of VA, this place feels so much like home I don't plan on ever leaving so I know how you feel. Oddly enough, if it weren't for a friend's obsession with the Mothman, I would have never even came up to Point Pleasant but I'm glad I did.
That isn’t really funny. Sonny Bono was a Republican, he signed on to the Clinton impeachment, and he died in a tragic skiing incident, which some conspiracy theorists suspect might have been caused, shall we say, rather than accidental. See, since he was skiing alone, there were no witnesses, and the timing was a bit suspicious. Everyone who knew him loved him.
I’m sorry his daughter is having such problems, but that can’t be helped when the media is standing right there waiting for the next big freak act to get the attention of the drooling masses. They may say his daughter is perfectly normal, but they secretly believe she is wierd as heck, and hope that people will blame her father for poor parenting.
Funny isn’t it, that P.P. is known the world over because of the Mothman. We don’t give him much thought. Instead, we think our history is the most important thing about our town. Did you come to the Mothman Festival in Sept.? There are usually thousands who come from all over the world. A lot from Japan. They love monsters. LOL
As long as West Virginia remains in the clutches of union thugs and their DemonRAT enablers, the Mountain State's future will be as bleak as its past.
With its impressive natural resources, West Virginia could become an economic powerhouse if it were to enact Right to Work as the law:
