Herman Cain leaving the campaign trail: Why now?

Herman Cain leaving the campaign trail: Why now?

Herman Cain is surging in popularity in a number of polls. So why is Herman Cain putting his campaign on hold for the next month?

The Hermantor Experience is, by almost any measure, the hottest thing going in the GOP presidential primary (not named Chris Christie).

< snip>

But Cain seems destined to squander it. And here’s why.

As NBC’s thoughtful First Read points out this morning, Cain's promoting a book - and appears to be taking himself off the campaign trail for almost a month.

Cain won’t be back in the key state of Iowa until November. With all of the jiggering of the Republican primary calendar, that means he’ll have six weeks (at best) to pound the trail before the Iowa caucuses in early January.

Perhaps equally telling, Cain's well-regarded communications director and her deputy are both leaving the campaign, with the director headed to… run press operations for Louisiana Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne in a tough primary election. That’s not exactly a vote of confidence in Cain’s presidential prospects.

< snip>

When you peel off the campaign trail for four weeks in the heat of the fight, it raises questions about just what the heck a candidate is doing in the race anyway. ....

< snip>

When you take yourself off the campaign trail just to flog a book, it raises the question: Why are you still around, Herman Cain? And what’s the real motive behind this run?

Exactly, and Perry and Christie are the worst.

And you are unhinged. Completely irrational and unreasonable. Christ Himself could announce and you wouldn’t be happy because of that ‘Love your enemy’ thing. You would spew lies and perpetuate falsehoods because He isn’t your candidate.

The entire Palin family has been treated worse than dirt on the bottom of a shoe. Beyond disgusting.

Perry has screwed the pooch most notably in the debates, no doubt about it. That being said, he's light years better than Romney will ever be.

Perry has lost every bit as much luster with me as Cain.
Calling me heartless because I don't agree with him on allowing illegals to get in state tuition has left a mark. Every bit as bad as Cain's statement about the rock.
I put my check book up today. I'm not going to send my money to these guys. I don't believe that Perry is nearly as conservative as Cain is, but I can't stand the race baiting comment, even if he was baited.
And I'm not impressed with the rest of the field.

Not true. There are already reports that Cain’s fundraising has beaten his Q2 amounts (2.6 million)

We could have all thought that at that time Obama was so slick. Be objective he has posted that some in your camp have said they will write in Palin’s name even if it means electing Obama. So are you calling these trolls out as well?

So who has the only ability to get a huge amount of campaign funds? This is not a SP thread you know.

I posted the truth. Romney is doing to Perry what McCain did to him with Huckabee in 2008.

It’s blatantly obvious.

This blog post is a lying sack of crap and it should not be in breaking news. Breaking wind is more like it.

If it is a lie, then provide proof that it is a lie.

A question has been raised and all you offer is emotion.

Is Herman Cain going to concentrate on the upcoming Primary States or is he going to concentrate on a Book Tour?

It's a legitimate simple question.

If you can provide no answer other that your emotional "It's a lying sack of crap!", then you are offering no more to the debate than the drunk shouting on the street corner outside the bar.

If Cain is going to concentrate on a book tour it will allow your candidate off the news long enough to study up for debatin. So why are you in a huff?

What a ridiculous article and assumption. The book he is promoting is a campaign book — this will be “part” of the campaign. And the staffers who left? They were not ready for a prime time campaign, and bolted due to the fact that a real player was brought in over them. They had threatened to do this at least one time before.

Totally ridiculous article.

*DING* *DING* *DING* *DING*

WE HAVE A WINNER! And in the first response post. FReepers rock.

I was at county Republican event last night where Cain was very much the feature event. If you donated nicely, you got a picture with Cain and a signed copy of the book. This writer is either A) a moron B) disingenuous or C) all of the above.

Note that the book releases tomorrow, so presumably one of the only places it would be available pre-release would be at a Cain event.

Awesome FP - glad you got the book! I just read that Cain’s book is already top 25% of book sales on Amazon and it doesn’t release until tomorrow :-)

Here is Cain talking about it (and other stuff) on Hannity: http://www.mofopolitics.com/2011/10/03/herman-cain-on-hannity-10311/

"His support for Romney was in 2008 when most of FR supported Romney because was better than McCain."

I think that that statement is highly disputable. I don't remember it that way.

To: Polybius ..... Just going to keep LYING, aren’t you? That’s disgusting. Cain did NOT say he wouldn’t support Perry if he were the nominee.

Who are you going to believe, Politicalmom?

Your over-active emotions or your own ears.

Here is a VIDEO of Herman Cain saying EXACTLY what you accussed me of "lying" about.

VIDEO: Herman Cain couldn't support Perry as nominee today

Do you want more ears to confirm it?

==================

Cain says he would not support Perry as GOP nominee ... Herman Cain said Wednesday that he would be unable to support Rick Perry for president if the Texas governor were to eventually win the party's nomination. "Today, I could not support Rick Perry as the nominee for a host of reasons," Cain said on CNN.

==================

. Herman Cain says he would not endorse Rick Perry for president . . By Chris Moody Political Reporter .Posts Email RSS .By Chris Moody | The Ticket – Wed, Sep 28, 2011. .... Herman Cain would not support Rick Perry's candidacy should Perry become the Republican Party's presidential nominee in 2012, Cain told CNN on Wednesday. .... "Today I could not support Rick Perry for a host of reasons. Him being soft on securing the border is one of the reasons. I feel very strongly about the need to secure the border for real, the need to enforce the laws that are already there, the need to promote the path to citizenship that's already there," Cain told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "But more importantly empower the states to enforce the national/federal immigration laws because the federal government didn't do it, can't do it, they never will do it. So that's where I think he and I have a basic fundamental difference of opinion."

So, Politicalmom, do you still think I am "lying"?

If so, listen to the VIDEO again.

VIDEO: Herman Cain couldn't support Perry as nominee today

Listen to it as many times as it takes to sink in.
