Herman Cain: Voters will find Chris Christie too liberal
Daily Caller ^ | 10/02/2011 | Alex Pappas

Posted on 10/02/2011 7:05:59 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain predicted on Fox News Sunday that GOP primary voters will find New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie too liberal if he decides to join the race for the White House.

Moderator Chris Wallace pointed out Christie’s views on gun control, civil unions, immigration, global warming that may not be conservative enough for Republicans, and asked Cain if Christie is too liberal to be the GOP nominee for president.

“Yes,” Cain responded. “I believe that a lot of conservatives, once they know his position on those things that you just delineated, they are not going to be able to support him. I think that it is absolutely a liability for him if he gets in the race.”

There has been rampant speculation in recent weeks that Christie would change course on his repeated statements that he will not run for president, as donors and Republicans continue to push him to run.

“Most of the conservatives believe that we should enforce our borders,” Cain elaborated, “they do not believe people should be here without documentation. They do not believe global warming is a crisis or a threat. Yes it might be a little bit out there, but they don’t see it as a crisis or a threat. And as you go right down the line, he’s going to turn off a lot of conservatives with those positions.”

I’m not sure Cain is staking out a position on this whole gay military thing or this whole Perry’s ranch N-rhead thing.

I think he was just reacting to the media.

In the case of the ranch thing, he just said it was insensitive, which it is in fact an insensitive name.

In the case of the gay military thing, he basically said, if you watch the whole interview, that people on stage were concentrating on something more important, namely, the debate, and that is the reason no one had a chance to think about whether or not people were booing for the person or the policy.

I’m not sure its really the entire sell-out that some people are making it out to be, honestly.

I was pointing out that the so-called quote that you were using was not what he said at all. You said that he said the word “insulting”. I said that he said it was “insensitive”. I didn’t say he didn’t mention Perry at all, and I didn’t say that his statement was taken out of context. I only pointed out that you were quoting the wrong word. There is a difference between the word “insulting” and “insensitive”.

If Cain had used the word “insulting” THEN I could see where people would be more upset - it would indicate that Cain was taking it personally vs. recognizing that there ARE some things that really shouldn’t be said just out of respect for others and to not recognize that IS “insensitive” to others...

Honestly, I think this whole thing is starting to sound like some of the crap back during the 2008 primaries (late 2007) when Romney and Huckabee were doing everything it seemed they could to cause rifts between OTHER candidates thinking it would make them look better (look back at the Anti-Thompson stuff on Politico). I’m seeing a lot of astroturf, and I think people are having knee-jerk reactions as far as all of a sudden dropping support for Cain because he may have been misinformed, and especially when this whole thing was probably a set-up by the LEFT.

I think the tail is wagging the dog at this point, and that NONE of this really has ANYTHING to do with either Cain OR Perry (it smells like something cooked up by another candidate to take them both out of contention...).

I do not make a habit of attacking any of the candidates on our side.

Ron Paul may be the exception

If you read the entire panoply of my posts on this thread, that is EXACTLY what I am saying.

Newt does a wonderful job in this video.

"Let me be quite clear in the spirit of the commercial I did with the Speaker Pelosi at VP Gore's request, I want to invite VP Gore to join in a nonpartisan inquiry...(more but tired of transcribing :p )"

Newt Rips Gore's 'Facts' To Pieces

There has been nothing to defend.
The man has walked on water as far as scrutiny goes.

I have said many times that I admire the man and that I like him.
I think the only thing I have said against him prior to this is that I dont think his 999 plan is valid.
I dont think it can get passed into law and I am now questioning some of his plan.

Ok, fair enough.

I mean, what are our choices at this point?

I’m pretty sure Palin’s not in.

Perry and Romney are equally repugnant (I don’t have a heart.)

Listen to the interview with Christiane Amanpour. Amanpour says to Cain, "On the front page of the Washington Post today, there is a story about Rick Perry, and a hunting lodge that belonged to his family, bought in the 1980s."

Where is the anger toward Amanpour for misrepresenting the story?

Well, I don’t believe Christi will run but I think all of us would love to see a Christi vs. Obama debate. It would almost be worth nominating him just to see that matchup.

Christi would eat his lunch and we would all enjoy every minute of it.

Hardly. Perry worked with the Aga Khan on charities in TX and the Aga Khan and his wife also work on them in Israel. The Aga Khan is the brother to the daughter of Actress Rita Hayworth. The Aga Khan is secular. It would do well to remember than Perry is Governor to diverse races in TX. He has to treat everyone equally under the law.

From what I've seen, he called it "insulting."

Fox News.com

Businessman Herman Cain on Sunday called it "insulting" that the family of Rick Perry owned a hunting camp with a racially charged name well into the 1980s and possibly even later.

According to a Washington Post article that appeared Sunday, the hunting camp owned by the Texas governor was branded with the name "N-----head." The word -- reportedly on a rock at the entrance of the 1,070-acre parcel -- has been painted over and the camp renamed.
Webposting here.

Considering that the title of the article calls it "racially insensitive" but the article itself quotes Mr. Cain as calling it '"insulting"' there is a potential inconsistency, and resolution might just depend on whether one prefers the headline or the story itself.

Nonetheless, since he claimed that Perry's family owned a hunting camp with that name, even if he merely claimed that the name was "racially insensitive" he is still race-baiting.

And yes, it has crossed my mind that another GOP wannabe is the prime mover behind the scenes here, which simply raises more questions about Mr. Cain given that he just last week said that he would never support Mr. Perry. I'm thinking Mr. Cain very much might want to be Mr. Romney's VP, if one grants that the fix is in and Mittens Romney is going to be installed as nominee whether he's wanted or not.

I have not seen the video until you shown it. Over all I loved that video. I agree though he did over do it with Parry and the ‘rock’ but that isn’t enough to turn my back on him.

Perry has always been a conservative. I am from TX and know very well what Perry has done and what he stands for. He would not have been elected this many times if he had not been conservative.

We expect lies from Amanpour.

Do you expect Mr. Cain to do a title search on the Texas property during an interview?

You SAID,
"Nah, Gingrich is very smart"

A smart man can think for himself. Anyone that believes in man made global warming is unable to think for themselves

I expect him to know facts before assigning blame.

He sure acted like he knew all about it.
Nodding his head and smiling as Amanpour presented the lies.
