Barbara Bush phones Chris Christie's wife to beg him to run for White House
Daily Mail UK ^ | September 27, 2011

As speculation brews about a possible Chris Christie bid for the White House, several big names are joining a chorus to persuade him.

Among them is former First Lady Barbara Bush, who recently phoned the New Jersey governor's wife Mary to convince her that the Christie family would be just fine in the White House despite the intense attention, a source told the New York Post.

Mrs Bush joins political heavyweights like former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in asking that he give the presidency a shot.

Despite insisting he won't run, Governor Christie is making the most of the speculation, travelling the country this week raising money for Republicans, rubbing elbows with rainmakers and speaking at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

Gov Christie's three-state tour is bringing him to Missouri, California and Louisiana - trips paid for by each state's GOP organization.

It will also bring home a lot of money for the New Jersey state Republican Party, which will see proceeds from three fundraisers the governor is hosting.

Talk of Christie entering the 2012 race for the White House ramped up this weekend, pushed in part by Texas Gov.

Rick Perry's shaky debate performance last week, as well as his loss in the Florida straw poll to Godfather’s Pizza mogul Herman Cain on Saturday.

While Christie's advisers swatted down the notion that he was reconsidering over the weekend, former Gov. Tom Kean, a longtime Christie mentor and confidant, stirred the pot on Monday.

Oh no...

Why, why, why would she do that!?

Laura, I can understand, but Barbara?

This is getting to be a bit much.

Many in the media and republican ranks seem to have a man crush on Christie that is not only irrational, but it mirrors the same type of ignorant-of-the-man-worship that was piled on obama’s head in 2008.

Christie has been in elective office two years. That’s the sum total of his record. He’s done some conservative things, he’s done some liberal things.

We don’t really have a full measure of the man, and he needs to at least finish his elected term as governor to provide a glimpse of his presidential potential. Instead, many seem to want him merely because he’ll come out swinging in debates.

That’s not enough of a resume. We have to have higher standards than the democrat party.

I can’t understand this. Honestly.

Why would she want a gun grabbing, glowbull warming believing, not willing to stand up against the Ground Zero mosque, not willing to sue over Obama care, obvious liberal such as Christie to enter this race?

Also, I’d like to ask her, is there something wrong with Mr. Herman Cain?

I’d support a CHRISTIE~CAIN or CAIN~CHRISTIE ticket any day.... two real people governing a more real nation. By the way I am surprised at the low class slings in this thread towards the man and the former first lady. Looks like my fellow freepers are falling into DU and MO curb slander...

I didn’t know this TBH, I had always sort of looked at her as an “America’s Grandmother” type of person.

Image = shattered :/

“Also, I’d like to ask her, is there something wrong with Mr. Herman Cain?”

The only people like Cain at the places Barbara Bush frequents park cars, shine shoes or bus tables. Besides, Herman is a conservative.

If Babs wants him in, you can bet that it's because they see Romney as faltering.

Stay out, Chris. We need you in NJ!

Um, Christie has supported semi-auto bans, and as such is sufficiently anti-Second Amendment enough to preclude any significant support from most conservatives.

So I doubt that foisting Christie upon the conservative electorate would be very helpful. We don't need another northeast Republican who is weak on the Right to Keep and Bear Arms...

Between this (RINO Barbara Bush) and Christie demanding that House Republicans cave on Disaster Relief Spending I cant figure out why anyone would want Christie to jump in, and after only a part of a first term yet. He has a job to complete in NJ.

I tell you who impresses me for the future maybe 2016, Scott Walker. Not only is he more conservative than Christie but he doesnt have that appearance problem Christie does key for a POTUS race(yes voters are shallow) . imagine the SNL skits on Christie,.
