Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels is asking fellow Republicans not to count out Rick Perry.
Daniels says it's too early for what he calls "last rites" over the Perry campaign, and he notes that Perry hasn't been in the race for very long.
Daniels says people ought to cut Perry some slack and give him a little time.
Daniels also says he's worried that the party's nominee will end up playing it safe in light of President Barack Obama's political weakness, and merely campaign as a default option to Obama's re-election.

“heartless” in the last debate followed the “don’t like them because their names sound different” in the debate before it. So we are racists and heartless according to Perry.
But he wants our vote?
lolol.
Advice: Don’t attack your own party’s base on national TV, twice, and expect their votes.
You’re correct and the next week should be interesting in regards to how Perry handles things. There are absolute conservative positions that Perry holds that, in my mind, are not up for negotiation:
Pro-Life
Pro-2nd Amend
Pro-Israel
Pro-Energy...Let’s face it, we MUST have someone that knows that industry..The administration is decimating it w/coal mines being slated to close, the moratorium on drilling...etc.
Pro-Military ... having served himself he will be less likely to dispatch our men and women to hell holes on a whim.
Pro-Business
Pro-cutting taxes
But what is unacceptable to me are his accusations. I was willing to be open minded about his reasoning on immigration and in-state tuition because Texas is absolutely unique in its relationship/history with Mexico. But instead, he accused conservatives of being heartless and like others said, played the race card.
These things came from his heart; he would not have blurted them out if that weren’t true.
The TTC and garadisil are non-issues to me because both are dead and he handled that well.
But the immigration issue is now back on my radar screen. In addition, as an article posted on here last nite (hysterical btw), who knew he would become ‘Mumbles Manino’ during a debate.
Obama will have him for lunch in a debate. What a freakin’ embarrassment.
“This sniping we are doing at our most viable (didn't say most likable or conservative) is a great boost to the enemy. “
Screw Daniels, screw Slick Willard, screw Zero and screw Captain Gardasil.
Perry took a nasty pot-shot at anti-illegal-immigration conservatives. Don't whine when they return fire.
Found the website that will be the first to tell us if Chris Cristie jumps into the race
And if Obama wins re-election, so what? Better to have gridlock than passing all sorts of Statist-lite legislation because the guy in the Oval Office has an "(R)" next to it.
Perhaps it's time for a "do-over" anyway.
The one doing the sniping and attacking is Perry against his own party’s base. He might as well be running camapign ads against racist, heartless conservatives. This was not a mistake, it is part and parcel of who Perry is. This was not “one mistake”, he has done it in 2 debates and has been doing it in Texas for years.
Oh for Pete’s sake, your arguments against Perry are getting sillier and sillier. You degrade the whole process by not focusing on the real issues, but I guess that is what you are trying to do.
The perspective is Perry is part of the political problem with this country and we flatly reject the establishment republicans from shoving him down our collective throats.
The real issue is that Rick Perry is attacking conservatives on national television.
That pretty much mirrors my feelings as well. Too bad a handful of Perry boosters want to blame us for speaking the truth about Perry instead of swallowing their spin du jour of blaming everyone but Perry for Perry’s stumbles.
Yes indeed. Let’s get Romney out of this race and then we can focus on Perry.
I’d love to cut Perry some slack but he needs to start speaking from the heart first. We don’t need some overhandled candidate who’s afraid he’ll say the wrong thing.
If Rick Perry has strong convictions, talk about them passionately, energetically, and with conviction.
Cowboy it up, Rick!
It’s not just for one mistake.....it’s the entire package.
A lot of people think it was wrong for Palin to sneak into Canada for healthcare but the Palin group never took issue with us and up to now Palin has yet to call us “heartless”.
I think it was just a mis-statement from Perry. He may have been thinking about Obama’s treatment of Israel at the time. I think Isreal was being discussed just before they went to immigration during that debate.
Mitch Daniels promoting Perry should tell us that Perry is really in the RINO camp.
Daniels is former Bushie who’s is big on conservative image like Perry.
Don’t forget SCOTUS. If we lose that it’s over.
BS
