A corrupt U.S. border agent sitting in a federal prison cell is offering a chilling view of the Mexican drug cartels whose drug shipments he protected for years in return for hefty bribes.
He is so terrified of the cartel's famous vicious streak that he fears for his own life -- and the lives of his family -- if he is identified as speaking to ABC News. He depicts a dangerously paranoid crime organization that has spies throughout U.S. law enforcement.
To illustrate the cartel's pervasive reach, he said he got his introduction to them through an American cop. From there the former border patrol agent was convicted of shepherding cartel vehicles loaded with drugs safely over the border. Prosecutors say he profited handsomely, being paid $4,000 per car and $6,000 to escort vans - in addition to a $10,000 retainer fee.

"In my opinion they have unlimited power..they have informants of all kinds, good and bad," he said. "They have informants in the city level, county level and, from what they claim, federal."
"At the time I was just thinking of a possible life and death situation and DEATH had better odds than I had.... Until you are faced with a situation like mine... no one can really say what they could have done."

I read once that a cop said a lot of times they don’t report a rogue cop is that someday he may be the one that you have to count on in a bad situation and he won’t have your back....your life may depend on being quiet as they aren’t always removed from the force... that makes sense to me...
The big thing that sticks out in this story is that the agent was probably a 1st generation American. I don’t know how many times my spouse and I have wanted to retort when asked our citizenship, “And yours?”
So many of them speak such bad English you know they haven’t been Americanized for long and their hearts and loyalties may lie more with Mexico than with the U.S..
Why would any cop that is money hungry not deal with the cartels.
HELL the Attorney General, President, BATF,FBI and U.S. attorney’s were.
Oh I can here it now. It’s the cops that are all corrupt.
We have reaped the whirlwind.
If I had his name and address I would give it to the Cartels and let them deal with it.
This guy is a real POS.
Illegal immigration and the crime wave heading north are the two greatest threats to our country, period!!!!
“Wait a minute. You mean to tell me our just and heroic War on Drugs is riddled with criminality and corruption???”
Totally different from the old Prohibition-era Chicago mob, right?
Scared for you and your family? Hey fool, should have considered such before committing. Play around, lay around, mox nix to me if they take you out.
As a supervisor in the oil patch dealing with contractors and service companies, that is one thing I entirely steered away from no matter how slight. And during a boom such crap could become rampant. But I slept good nights and never had to worry about repercussions if I ran anyone off (fired) for poor job performance.
Didn’t see it, but good start would be Latino names of the corrupt.
If you're not familiar with him read about Frank Serpico or watch the movie 'Serpico'. IIRC, that's pretty much what happened to him in the NYPD after he exposed corrupt cops and officials on the force. No backup when he needed it. Critically wounded but survived. Later moved to Switzerland.
If the Obama gummit really wanted to try to do something good in the drug wars, it would do public service advertising all over the country showing gritty monochrome pictures of the Mexican drug cartel violence and urging all Americans to shun street drugs, most particularly Mexican street drugs.
You sure got that one right. Also, we need a new government with people in it who have the will to totally clean house, like the Communist Chinese under Mao did with the drug traffickers/users in 1947+. Don't like the other things they did, but they COMPLETELY rid the country of drug dealing/use at that time.
Exactly correct. Also the commenter about the medial being paid off is also right on target. A dramatic change is becoming necessary.
Not to worry, though. There will always be a need for bouncers at the seedier establishments.
“He forgot to add payoffs of the ownership of American media. People never seem to think about that.”
VERY good point!

Chicken feed...
What was once an almost winnable issue, is now in the hands of an administration who is doing everything they can from all facets of this war to undermine and successfully making this an unsustainable conflict...
I can still take any credible Law Enforcement investigator to 3 houses I know for a fact have illegals in them to be further distributed into the country, and 2 more that are used for separate operations and distribution of illegal drugs (product) that are in the Pasadena, Texas area alone...
But I am just a rabble-rouser, racist and Nazi for pointing that out to them and others...
I’m tired of nothing getting done on such solid information, I still see the same activities going on to this day...I’m tired of being looked at more than the problem, so if they got more information on me, and not on the problem, screw it, its not wort it anymore...

So can just about any American anywhere in the country who is paying attention.
That is why this is such a big issue. It IS a big issue and is everywhere and the feds (and a lot of the local authorities) ignore it.
My guess? With so many untraceable cartel billions sloshing around looking for a crooked home, huge chunks of it are finding their way into U.S. political and law enforcement hands and that's why the problem never gets the crucial attention it needs. It is not just this lone agent who is guilty and being used by the cartels. It is a widespread cancer on our entire system of honest law and order.
Well, part of me aggrees that the money may be sloshing around a little bit, not that widespread just yet...The potential is certainly there for the chances of mnore and more L.E. to be hornswaggled to the darkside...
When that is more widespread, then yes, the war is lost on this side of the border then...
That’s when the people like us who are payng attention shift gears...
