I hope Gov. Rick Perry enjoyed his six week run as the front runner of the GOP field, because it's now over. Perry has had three debates. His first was mediocre. His second debate performance was weaker than his first, and last nights debate was worse than either of the first two. He comes across as unprepared, sometimes unsteady, and at times his answers border on being incoherent. And his stand on illegal immigration will hurt him with the GOP base. A lot of conservatives rallied to Perry based on what they assumed he was, having seen him hardly at all.

Actually I gave everyone four choices but mentioned the best two. It’s the least I can do. I appreciate that you agree. Hey somebody has to get some sanity around here.....last round some here were supporting that ghastly McCain during the primary....obviously as he won the nom. This year some here are pushing another RINO Perry. I am just trying to wake everyone up to the importance of getting a conservative nominated.....soon some of you are going to find out that Perry is not who he says he is and back Christie....I want to stop that ASAP!!!!

I wouldn't be too sure about that. Romney the flip-flopper could flop yet again and, safely ensconced in the White Hut with 300 electoral votes in his pocket, decide that Obamacare was a good idea back when he, Romney, thought of it in Taxachusetts.
Keep in mind, too, Howell Raines's article (he was formerly editor of the New York Times, with beaucoup contacts among the East Coast RiNOcracy) in October 2008 in Conde Nast's Portfolio, in which he claimed that the Republican Establishment, talking to the 'Rat policy wonkerati via the "economic conservative" foundations, had already agreed to a national health-care plan, in order to accomplish the will of the Fortune 500 CEO's who want to dump employee healthcare plan and, they think, take those dollars right to their bottom lines.
At the time he wrote the article, the GOP mandarins were simply waiting for the children to get done with the election.
Another straw in the wind: The Tea Party brought enough new Republicans to Congress to put Boehner in the Speaker's chair, and their motivating force was the repeal of Obamacare.
But Boehner has done a bait-and-switch, and at the start of the year a) denied Michele Bachmann a place in the House leadership (he told her "it's not your turn" -- classic RiNO B.S.) and b) switched the subject of the GOP congressional agenda from Obamacare to budget and national debt issues.
Boehner won't help to repeal Obamacare, because the RiNO leadership is secretly committed to preserving it and allowing private healthcare insurance to die.
Push healthcare to the government, put it on the nation's tax bill, and shove the taxes from corporations back to the individual taxpayers -- the little people -- and let them sink or swim. Can't afford it? Better have a good funeral plan, you'll need it soon. And so on -- a bevy of future Democratic campaign themes in the making, courtesy of RiNO Establishment Central.
You'll have to revolutionize the GOP congressional leadership -- as I just pointed out, the Republican Establishment is committed to preserving Obamacare, for the benefit of their corporate and Old Money audience.
A 45 second TV or radio ad showing Romney talking about his liberal positions on abortion, gay marriage, gun control, man-made global warming, and he will be exposed for every Republican to see the real liberal Romney.
I didn't know that, thanks for that info. It colored my perception of his Gardasil initiative when I saw some posts about her on FR, attributing his motive to compassion. Thanks for the perspective.

The Governor said she met with him, and she lobbied him before she died. He’s also said his wife convinced him that the vaccine was worth the fight.

Compare Perry’s 10 years in office, his proven record on prolife and profamily legislation, his ability to cut the spending in Texas and hold the line so that we don’t have income tax.
No other candidate can match his experience.
I think you're connecting events that don't really connect. And the House voted to repeal Obamacare early this year by a healthy vote. And you can bet the Republicans running for the Senate in 2012 will take a stance on the repeal, and if they don't they will be pointedly asked where they stand on repealing Obamacare.
The political energy behind repealing Obamacare has grown beyond anything the big corporations can stop with their typical methods if the Republicans senate seats can be grown to 55 or better.
And I think a new Republican senate would depart from the 60 vote rule as the Dims did, or threatened to do in some of their maneuvers to get Obamacare passed.
My bet would be that it’s either Palin herself or someone not know on the radar that she endorses when she makes her announcement that she isn’t running. My first bet is that she rns.
The House voted 245 to 189 to repeal Obamacare early this year. That was largely symbolic since it had no chance in the Senate, but they House will not back away from it and could even have more members who’d vote to repeal in 2013.

Bachmann should have done more disclosure, and presumably she did disclose in accordance with public law, hence the availability of that information to the author of your linked piece.
She should have done a better job of "truth in advocacy" revelation of her dealings with the insurance lobby (which btw has been huge in the Texas Lege, as the trial lawyers recede from center stage, and have been passing new public insurance-friendly traffic laws since 2003 in a river, through their "House of Lobbyists" in the basement of the state capitol).
I'm surprised that you chose such an envenomed Bachmann detractor to quote, who right at the top characterizes her as "a one-time sideshow amusement and general thorn in the side of Democrats (and thinking human beings)".
I didn’t quote, I pointed to the earliest report I could find.
However, Governor Perry had the authority to direct the Executive Branch, Department of State Services, to which the Legislature had delegated the authority to mandate vaccines. He agrees with you that he should have had a conversation with the voters.
One thing you can say, he makes up his mind and acts on his decisions. He can back off, but it takes reason and evidence. No waffling, no keeping you guessing. I wonder whether it’s growing up on a farm or his military experience.
Well, for one thing, I didn't know that the Lege had already delegated such a broad power. That makes a difference.
