I mentioned Rick Perry’s DREAM Act debate blunder in my round-up post.
It gets second place.
The cringe-worthiest moment, by a hair, was when Perry botched what should have been his most potent attack on Mitt Romney’s chronic flip-flopping. As I noted on Twitter when it happened, any random high schooler at the CPAC conference in Washington could have done better than this.
If this is how Perry’s going to take Obama on in debates, we’re in trouble. Someone inject him with some Red Bull and a dash of Herman Cain’s personality.

During a primary, it is easy to say, “I’ll never vote for XXX!”
In the general election, faced with a choice between Obama & ANY of the Republicans running, the vast majority of Republicans will vote.
I don’t know who the Republican will be. I thought it would be Perry, but he STINKS in debates, and those clips WILL be seen by lots of voters. He also spits on conservatives.
But Romney, Perry or any other GOP candidate - neither I nor the vast majority of conservatives will risk another 4 years of Obama, or another couple of Supreme Court picks. THAT would be a good way to see gun ownership banned by the Supreme Court, illegals made citizens, Obamacare go into action, taxes up, more homosexual pandering...
It is imperative that Obama is defeated next November. Whatever the flaws of our current crop of candidates, they're all miles better than he is. What I'd personally like to see is all of these people excelling in debates, so that we can feel good about the chances of whomever manages to win the nomination.
So why the joy over one of the frontrunners having a bad night? Is this all about hoping that the current crop all screws up so that someone else not yet in the race might choose to enter? Is that it?
Because what happens if said person chooses not to run? What then? Should we all just take joy in the fact that whomever does win the nomination will screw up and lose to Obama?
I don't get this. It's like who wins the GOP nomination is so personal to some folks that it trumps the goal of replacing the clown currently occupying the White House. "If my person doesn't win (well, first run), I'm just going to take my ball and go home, and a pox on all the rest of you."

He needs someone like you to coach him. He’s such a down to earth man.
He may not be from Haaaaaarvard and talk like a snake oil salesman but he’s still my choice.
I won’t bother to go into ‘why’ again for obvious reasons.

I think it was Rick Santorum who turned to him and said the obvious, that you don't reward bad behavior (illegal status) with giveaways. You can allow them to go to school, but make them scrimp and pay like the rest of the U.S. has to do to go to school.
Perry looked really bad, it's not just his style (which was awful last night), but his record.
I don’t have a horse in this race yet but I will say this. I will happily vote for whomever the Perry nominates and I hope all here will do the same.
That said if it is Perry or Romney, what they say in these debates will be overridden by the fact they are extremely attractive (physically) individuals and as such will get the majority of the clueless female vote.
Which of those things would a Romney SCOTUS appointment prevent?
With no apologies, I refuse to vote for Romney in 2012. If that means Obama gets another shot at destroying this country, so be it. Maybe it is better to have Obama blow it up fast, than Romney smother it slowly. Or if you like, turn up the heat so fast, the frog leaps out. Rebellion may need a special catalyst.
Your comment (above in italics) is actually very insightful. I did not care for Perry's "heartless" response, but I can see where it could be useful in the general election against Obama.
Personally, having lived in Texas and seeing how this state has had to manage a problem it has had shoved upon it through no fault of its own, I believe it is a "BRAIN" issue even more than any "heart" issue.
Neither Texas nor Rick Perry has any legal right to deport, so until the federal government does its job, we either turn these folk into better residents here, or we'll deal with gangs, murder, drugs, and prostitution.
Now I wouldn't want Perry saying what I just said either! LOL But for those people here who don't understand what we have had FORCED UPON US and what we have been forced to have to manage, they might want to at least consider how much "authority" we really have (we DON'T) and then think about what the best route for us to do here may be.
Thank you for the insightful thought RE the effect of Perry's portrayal of this issue and it's negative effect on Obama. While I hope he provides information and corrects misinformation next time, at least there is some merit in considering what he is doing to Obama now too.

Yes, the USA and Mexico have a treaty in place to share water from the Rio Grande. The international boundary is recognized as the middle of the river.. I believe.
That said... our right to take water from the river... or theirs, would NOT prevent the construction of a barrier fence on OUR side of the river.
Romney is a disaster. A Rino. Perry blew it big time with his libspeak “You have no heart” garbage. Obama-lite. Both of them.
He had back surgery on July 1st. That was almost three months ago. What’s his excuse now?
Not just his debate performances are bad, he can't even answer a simple question posed by a liberal interviewer as you can see in this video.
Just told you on another thread that I agree with your statement, we are electing a president (GOP nominee) and not the captain of the debate team. Problem is, Perry made three major stumbles last night and showed he was unprepared to debate his fellow candidates. This was the night he needed to take it to Romney and didn’t.
There are 9 more debates. The next one is on Oct 11th at Dartmouth in NH. After that one there is a debate scheduled for Las Vegas.
Perry needs to do well on Oct 11th. No if’s and’s or but’s. Anything less is unacceptable. Period.
Some of us Texans have been trying to tell the rest of you, that Perry is where he is, because he's never had to face a worthy challenger. Now that he's on deck in the big leagues, you can see this clearly.
That explains his posture. I've been wondering about that as I have a bad back and had surgery. Looked familiar.
