Perry: "I Don't Think You Have a Heart" If You Oppose In-State Tuition for Children of Illegal

Full title: Perry: "I Don't Think You Have a Heart" If You Oppose In-State Tuition for Children of Illegal Immigrants

Perry's response was forceful and personal. "I don't think you have a heart," Perry told his critics.

"If you say that we should not educate children who come into our state for no other reason than that they've been brought their through no fault of their own, I don't think you have a heart," Perry said. "We need to be educating these children because they will become a drag on our society. I think that's what Texans wanted to do. Out of 181 members of the Texas legislature when this issue came up [there were] only four dissenting votes. This was a state issue. Texas voted on it. And I still support it today."

Please be logical. I never inferred she used the same language as Perry but I am still waiting for quotes by Palin that shows her position on illegals is different from Perry's.

Yea, I don't like what Perry said either but my point is that we have no idea what any of the other candidates' positions are in a similar situation--including Palin.

I just know when I read her overall position on illegals it did not differ from Perry's as far as it went. She has no intention of deporting them, either.

It's easy to use strong language but then putting it into practice is another matter and I still blame this huge problem on the federal government.

I have repeatedly said that in my simplistic mind, we do not need a fence, we need existing laws enforced and we need to remove the magnet that is drawing them here, which is free federal mandated government handouts.

(Rebellion is brewing!! Impeach the corrupt Marxist bastard!!)

I like your tagline. However, without our current crop of “weak-kneed” RINOs in Congress, that impeachment thingy ain’t gonna happen. However, the rebellion will.

Thanks for your efforts for all of these years.

Signed, an old time Freeper.

I have repeatedly said that in my simplistic mind,

Go play with yourself grandma I am tired of you. No matter what you Perry turd polishers say or do Perry is still a turd. Just say it - Perry is not a good candidate.

QUESTION FOR PERRY: Suppose Chinese or Palestinians were coming here as stowaways.....would you grant them in-state tuition?

SECOND QUESTION: Am I heartless or is Perry just stupid?

-- The [Plyler] Court rejected their [equal protection] argument by emphasizing the decision of Yick Wo which declared all persons "within its [a government's] jurisdiction" came under Fourteenth Amendment protection. --

The 14th amendment case there is Wong Kim Ark, not Yick Wo.

Wong Kim Ark is the case that construed "subject to the jurisdiction" to mean anybody within the borders, excluding diplomats and invading armies.

First post I’ve read that I agree with here. If they are born here they can’t be deported anyway. Rick isn’t giving them college, he is charging them the same as other Texans. Talk about people jumping to conclusions right away!

Because as he said through no fault of their own. Since Fed Law says illegal MUST be educated at taxpayer expense. Just HOW do you plan on stopping them from going

I can't help you if you don't get it. My sister's son wanted to go to A&M but could not afford it from Alabama. But it's no problem for illegals. Plus they are also getting additional scholarships and affirmative action that no one is even talking about.Plus what about the magnet effect of this perk attracting NEW illegals 'through no fault of your own'. Put out a birdfeeder and the birds will come, This is WRONG.

Also what about the fact that the TX law 'required' HS illegals to promise they would pursue citizenship yet TX has not checked on a single one of them?

The moment of the debate where I wanted to throw something at the TV. Don’t use the liberal ploy of “you don’t have a heart” on me.

After the last few debates, I’m ready to vote for Gingrich if I don’t get to vote for Cain. A Gingrich/Cain or Cain/Gingrich ticket would suit me just fine.

So you would trade a windfall profit tax for your personal freedoms?

I think it would be a wise idea to concentrate upon your personal freedoms and once that is restored, the windfall profit tax would more than likely be struck down.

Concentrate your focus on the windfall profit tax as the major concern and your freedoms will soon disappear. Then, you won’t have to worry about anything since you will become a union slave for the government.

“Romney ain’t the Devil.

Well, at least you’re half right.”

The Romney ain’t the Devil part?

I didn't say it,("Romney ain’t the Devil") I was quoting someone and you know it. Don't attribute things to me that I did not say.

I also know where you are coming from as you were pushing Romney from way way back. Now you are a coward because you still support him but fear getting kicked off F.R. Romney was and still is a worthless P.O.S.and less than a man, everybody here knows it with the exception of you and a few more of your coreligionists, who put their fake religion above every other consideration.

Tell the truth flaglady47, are you pro Romney or not? By the way you have a posting history, so don't bother to tell us that you never were.

Wow, it is the wrong political climate to say these sorts of things.

Another thought too. The LAST place I want these people is our educational system filled with Marxist training. They are putty in the hands of leftists.

Perry is turning out to be another “compassionate conservative” Texas sap like W. And he will probably win, and grant amnesty. We can’t win for trying.

I agree with you, and Rush. . . .I see most everyone here throwing the baby out with the bathwater. The media is jumping all over our best hope (unless Sarah runs 3rd party) to beat the Dems. We will NEVER have the perfect candidate, but I’d prefer a tough Texan to a re-invented Hillary as president.

Well, down goes Perry. At a time when the GOP field should be strongest, it turns out to be a feeble gaggle of also-rans.

Do you think the children of illegals should be allowed to pay less tuition than a legal U.S. citizen from out of state? Yes or no?

Most of the children of illegals are citizens. If they did not graduate from Texas High Schools, then they should not get the in state tuition rates. Only children who graduate from high school in Texas are entitled to it. This is a States Rights issue. Dont you think Texas has a right to favor their own High School graduates over those from other states?

This is what I don’t get.

If they are legal — then pay your damn in-state tutition like the rest of us have to. And don’t go begging to have your out of state tuition covered. In fact, STOP with all the hands out begging for ANYTHING more from this country.

If they were brought here illegally - then THEY have a problem. Their parents broke the law. We dont’ reward law breakers.

Simple.

Where was the “heart” when I was trying to work MY way through school? The most “heart” I got was a loan that I had to PAY BACK. And it took me some 10 years to do it!!

Has anyone, any of these bleeding hearts considered LOANING money to these kids?? If they’re so worried about them, loan them some of YOUR money, liberals. Establish scholarship funds!!!!!! Why not? Worried you might not get paid back, then?? Oh, I see — best to just let the taxpayer pay it, and we won’t worry about having to recoup any of it.

Makes my blood boil. No more Perry — I think he’s exposed himself for who he is now — time to move on.

None of the candidates would dare to express the kind of hatred towards the children of illegal aliens that one reads on this forum. That includes Palin, who is on record favoring Amnesty and a path to citizenship for illegal aliens. I bet most of those who excoriate Perry on this issue are Palin supporters. Palin has so far managed to dodge all the hard questions that are being thrown at Perry. What are these people going to say when Palin decides to support Perry?

The nagging thing I can’t get away from is the fact that one of the most conservative states in this country passed this bill almost unanimously. That’s fact you can’t ignore. If such a conservative state (who is dealing with illegals on the scale of no other) thought it was a good idea, I begin to think that maybe there is more to this bill then just more liberal policy. Do the detective work yourself I always say.

The other nagging thing is, again, one of the most conservative states out there has elected and re-elected this man 4 times! He’s getting something right or he wouldn’t still be around, not in that state.
