I know this sounds really snarky, but too bad Mexico could not offer a tuition program for their college aged students citizens to return for in-state tuition and loans, etc.. It is not snarky. But seriously, with all the violence, murder, and mayhem--if you lived in Mexico, wouldn't you be hightailing it out of there?
I went there 30 years ago to a very nice hotel in Acapulco. There were heavily armed federales on the beach back then. Now the drug gangs are decapitating people and leaving them in the streets.
Mayors are being murdered, police stations overtaken. This week they even canceled a football game in TX due to security concerns.
The real immigration solution is to make the Mexicans want to stay in their own country. Our federal government should be dealing with the drug runners, gun dealers, and those profiting from transporting illegals in the country. IMHO.

Unbelievably, I actually went on 2 driving trips thru Mexico about 30 years ago—I find it hard to believe that I did that and I know now I could not.

I agree the drug problem has only exacerbated the situation.

I used to joke maybe we should've invaded Mexico, not Iraq. Given a choice between "Made in China" or "Made in Mexico" I do what I can to keep Mexican's working in Mexico.
I traveled throughout the country 30 years ago. It's a great place with a rich history but I'd never go back with the cartel violence as it is.
