What you're missing is that both the vaccine flap and the whole question of what tuition is charged at Texas universities are trivial. Neither subject tells you much of anything meaningful about a candidate and this obsession with both is stupid and self-destructive.

Illegal immigration is important because a wave of unassimilated foreigners from an alien political culture gaining citizenship would swamp our political system. Tuition rates have nothing to do with any path to citizenship which isn't a matter Perry has any influence over. Nothing he has ever advocated threatens to make the risk to our system of illegal immigration even slightly greater. Anyone who thinks that the lure of instate tuition is a big draw for immigrants is a lunatic.

Perry would be neither more nor less likely than any other Republican President to address our illegal immigration problem effectively. He would probably be less hostile to immigration enforcement than either Obama or Bush. There is no reason to believe he would push for “comprehensive immigration reform.” The next President, like the current one, will have much more pressing matters to attend to.

The whole immigration argument is a silly distraction staged for the purpose of promoting Romney's candidacy and the perpetuation of the status quo. It's a shame to see so many conservatives taking the bait.

Perry has come out officially for amnesty, though he won't call it that.

He has explicitly stated that he is favor of giving legal status to the illegals.

I support a guest worker program that takes undocumented workers off the black market and legitimizes their economic contributions without providing them citizenship status.

There were 12,000+ such students in Texas schools last year (that anyone knew about).

Romney had that answer. I was looking for it on the net and couldn't find it so I am impressed with Romney's researchers.

12,000

That's a good size school ~ could have it's own serious basketball team!

BTW, the instate tuition issue is very important. It tells us a lot about where a candidate thinks he's from ~ does he imagine only that he's back in Chicago taking care of Cook County political business, or does he imagine he's capable of being the Leader of the Free World representing the interests of the world's only superpower ~ a continent size nation called America?

Perry's responses on the tuition shows us he's pretty parochial. Herman Cain sounds international. Mitt tells us that he can get the answers but we also know he's been all over the table on the moral issues of our time ~ no clear core beliefs in that guy.

I see Newt doing Secretary of State ~ and so can Obama, and those other guys on the stage. He's as well versed as Henry Kissinger always was. That's a necessity in that job.

You are obviously wearing Perry-colored glasses. The tuition deal for illegals does two things: it lets the immigrants know that we are here to HELP them, even though they have broken the law; and it thus acts as a magnet to bring more illegals in. Conservatives uphold the law and do not bend it.

Perry is toast. As Drudge said: "Perry Doubles Down on Illegals." Bad move. Game, set, match.

I don’t understand why the the people in Luntz’s group are willing to buy into Romney defending Romneycare with healthcare is a state issue, but do not see whether or not to give in-state tuition to illegal residents as a state issue.
