Santorum: Perry 'ignores reality'[“I’ve forgotten more -- than Rick Perry knows about Israel]

Rick Santorum lambasted Rick Perry as a lightweight on Israel policy Tuesday, dismissing Perry’s speech in New York as boilerplate rhetoric crafted by political handlers.

“I’ve forgotten more about Israel than Rick Perry knows about Israel,” Santorum said during a conversation with POLITICO on Tuesday, while Perry was addressing a rally of people opposed to the Palestinian statehood vote in New York. “There he is, reading a speech, that I’m sure he didn’t write, and has never taken a position on any of this stuff before, and [the media is] taking this guy seriously.”

....He even hit Fox News, his former employer, for lavishing so much attention on Perry: “Fox News is a dog following the squirrel.”

.....“When they say they don’t like the pack, they’re not talking about me,” Santorum said.

He remains confident — and he’s fully grounded in reality in feeling that way.

“I’ll do a blood test and pee in a cup,” he joked.

One of Rick Perry’s first acts after being elected agriculture commissioner in 1991 was to create the Texas-Israel Exchange to promote information and research sharing.

I liked Santorum when he was a bright start out there but he’s just fallen so fast — it’s a sad thing. There must be a bigger story behind this.

I vote in Pennsylvania, and Santorum always got my vote, albeit grudgingly in ‘06 and for the very reasons you state. I’m done with him, he’s an embarassment.

I'm not very impressed with Rick Santorum but he did hit one out of the park in the last debate.

SANTORUM: I think we need to hear what Governor Perry's saying. He's saying that his policy was right. He believes that what he did was right. He thinks he went about it the wrong way.

I believe your policy is wrong. Why — ladies and gentlemen, why do we inoculate people with vaccines in public schools? Because we're afraid of those diseases being communicable between people at school. And therefore, to protect the rest of the people at school, we have vaccinations to protect those children.

Unless Texas has a very progressive way of communicating diseases in their school by way of their curriculum, then there is no government purpose served for having little girls inoculated at the force and compulsion of the government. This is big government run amok. It is bad policy, and it should not have been done.

Seriously, can’t someone build themselves up without tearing another conservative down?

Obama is a target rich environment, and yet the also-rans keep on attacking Perry over nonsense, which is interesting since they refrained from attacking Romney debate after debate prior to Perry’s entry. Romney like Obama is a target rich environment and yet besides Romneycare I can’t think of a single thing that Romney was ever attacked on.

Gay marriage?
Abortion?
Raising Taxes?
Gun control?
and on and on and on that Romney could be attacked for, and .... crickets.

Santorum hammered Perry for pushing a Texas mandate that would have forced young girls to receive an HPV vaccination. Since getting into the campaign, Perry has said that he regretted not bringing the measure to the Texas Legislature for review rather than issuing an executive order — and then said that the measure should have been an opt-in rather than opt-out requirement.

Sounds like John Fing Kerry is running again.

There must be a bigger story behind this.

Not hard to figure out. As a Catholic Santorum should be well aware that pride and envy are deadly sins.

***can’t someone build themselves up without tearing another conservative down?***

I believe that is why Newt is coming off as a grownup. He deals with ideas not personalities.

Have these candidates not learned anything in all the years they have been campaigning. Don’t they replay their tapes?

(oh and for the next couple of days can we please not use “Rick and Rick” but identify the opponents as Perry and Santorum? thanks)

The Dems attacked no one but GWB in 08 primary’s season - and our folks should be attacking no one but Obama. The one who does that the best and the boldest and with the most fearlessness and plans for correction will win and should win.

Now as for Perry, I’m sure he’s attacked now more than Romney because he came from no where to first in the polls and there is probably the feeling that he must be stopped before he runs the table.

Mitt has been running forever, and they probably don’t think there’s any risk in waiting to attack him. Just a thought.

But even Mitt is not who I want attacked: it’s OBAMA PERIOD. I don’t think Mitt is a problem going foward on those issues (like he has been) but we all know 100% that Obama is a big problem on each and every one of them.

Santorum is a nice guy with a good conservative record but he just doesn’t have what it takes to be a leader.

Hey Santorum, have you forgotten about the beating you took in your last run for office too? Apparently not.

Gov. Perry has explained that the EO (which was done so patients' insurance would help pay for it, and which the TX legislature had put under the governor's pervue -- vaccines were also easier to opt-out of from earlier years ) was the wrong way to go. That if it was to happen again, that the Legislature would be the place for it to originate and proceed, regardless of what powers the Legislature gave the governor in regards to this in the past. The Legislature voted to put aside Perry's EO and he left it there. This is not a flip-flop. No matter how much you wish it were.

…….”The Gardasil vaccine was recommended the FDA’s vaccine approval committee, more than 6 months before Governor Perry’s Executive Order. All girls who qualified for the Federal Vaccines for Children program were eligible to receive the vaccine free of charge: Medicaid, CHIPs, and uninsured or those with insurance that won’t pay for vaccines. The Texas Legislature had previously delegated unconditional authority to mandate new vaccines to the Department of State Health Services, which is under Governor Perry and the Executive Branch.” Source

The Governor’s Executive Order (RP 65) that caused all the controversy also ordered the director of DSHS to make it easier for parents to opt out of vaccines. The Legislature had changed the law from “opt in” to a requirement to “opt out” once for all the school years. Next, they changed to a two year limit on the opt out, and then in 2005, the Legislature restricted the period to one year and required a new State form bearing a “seal.” Parents had to go to Austin or start early in the summer. There were bureaucrats who maintained that the only way to get the form with the seal was to go to Austin, find the right office and make the request in person. Perry used his EO to tell the Director of DSHS to make the request (and the seal) available on-line, making it easier to “opt out.” Source

So far I only see three that I consider in the 'statesman' category - Santorum barely makes it as a politician!
