Why Obama should withdraw
The Chicago Tribune ^ | September 18, 2011 | Steve Chapman

Posted on 09/18/2011 4:28:27 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

When Ronald Reagan ran for re-election in 1984, his slogan was "Morning in America." For Barack Obama, it's more like midnight in a coal mine.

The sputtering economy is about to stall out, unemployment is high, his jobs program may not pass, foreclosures are rampant and the poor guy can't even sneak a cigarette.

His approval rating is at its lowest level ever. His party just lost two House elections — one in a district it had held for 88 consecutive years. He's staked his future on the jobs bill, which most Americans don't think would work.

The vultures are starting to circle. Former White House spokesman Bill Burton said that unless Obama can rally the Democratic base, which is disillusioned with him, "it's going to be impossible for the president to win." Democratic consultant James Carville had one word of advice for Obama: "Panic."

But there is good news for the president. I checked the Constitution, and he is under no compulsion to run for re-election. He can scrap the campaign, bag the fundraising calls and never watch another Republican debate as long as he's willing to vacate the premises by Jan. 20, 2013.

That might be the sensible thing to do. It's hard for a president to win a second term when unemployment is painfully high. If the economy were in full rebound mode, Obama might win anyway. But it isn't, and it may fall into a second recession — in which case voters will decide his middle name is Hoover, not Hussein. Why not leave of his own volition instead of waiting to get the ax?

It's not as though there is much enticement to stick around....

I am no expert, just a follower of politics (I would say I have been an obsessive follower, since the 2008 Presidential campaign).

There is something behind Bill Clinton and James Carville stepping up their criticism of Obama and the way that they have run the White House. I don’t know what it is, but I don’t think that Hillary will run. I think she is, and feels, old and has said repeatedly that she will not.

So that leaves the questions of what Bill Clinton has to gain by articulating, validating and even enhancing Democrats’ reservations about Obama, and making them feel that it’s okay to express it out loud. Really, I haven’t a clue, despite spending a lot of time trying to understand it.

“He’s going to dump Biden and get Hillary to run with him.”

I think his team seriously considered this, as the one sure way to buck Obama’s popularity back up. Then canny Old Joe, who may be batty but is not quite as senile as some thought, came out with the oddest, apropos of nothing public comment:

‘everybody has always known that Obama is straight’.

Now where did that come from and why? My theory is that Biden knew about the replacement discussions, and decided to threaten Obama with exposure for what is, at best, his bisexuality. I can’t prove it, but that is what I believe happened.

The conundrum for the Democrats is that their strongest base of support is African-American voters. If they replace Obama with anyone who is not black, then these voters will believe they weer cheated, and they will sit out the election.

We have the opportunity to replace Obama with someone who is black and who is arguably superior to the current GOP frontrunners.

The best I can come up with is that he didn’t like Obama to begin with, he didn’t want Obama to be president, he didn’t appreciate seeing Hillary ridiculed by Obama during the campaign and there is no love lost between them.

Clinton has been in politics for decades, and is an expert politician. His behavior may be based on his analysis that the Obama administration is the Titanic, going down slowly but irreversibly, and if he wants to have a voice in national politics and kingmaking in the future, this is a good chance for him to speak up.

Don’t forget that he was with the middle-of-the-road Democrat organization in the 1980s and 1990s, and although he showed his true socialist colors with Hillarycare early in his administration, when that turned into a fiasco he pivoted right back to the center and stayed there for the rest of his term. I don’t think he wants to go down with the SS Obama.

I like Herman Cain on his own terms (I hope that Sarah Palin declares, but I think that Cain’s heart is in the right place and his business experience invaluable). I think it is highly unlikely, though not impossible, to see black Americans en masse turn from the socialist Obama to the patriot Cain just because he is black.

Don’t forget that Cain is resolutely opposed to ethnic politics and would not campaign hard to give the black community its “fair share”; instead, he wants to give everyone a fair shot, and that message won’t be enough to mobilize the Obama-oriented black community, in my opinion.

This has been the GOP position going back at least 20 years: when everybody prospers, black people prosper too.

They can solve that problem simply by spreading a little cash around among the so called “Black Leaders”.

They will all jump on the same page that the rich-white- republican-racist forced Zippo out.

Typical dem voter, black and white, is a group think pack of dumb-asses that will believe what they are told.

I don’t disagree with what you’re saying. Her recent pictures show that she is tired, wants to get out, the fire is gone, and she has given up.

I just don’t know of any other Democrat who would be in a position to take on the Chicago machine, or who the NoBama democrat crowd would put at the top of the ticket.

Once again - if not Hillary, then who?

Presidents who win re-election have generally found, wrote John Fortier and Norman Ornstein in their 2007 book, "Second-Term Blues," that "their second terms did not measure up to their first."

So the second term with Obama would be worse? That's breathtaking in it's own weird way... Obama's lucky he's got the press - Dems are ginning up the economy with every 'credit card' they've got - when we win - or he gets a second term, the whole thing will crash. That happens five minutes after a Republcan takes over and we'll be blamed. If Obama wins a second, the economy will still be blamed on Bush.

No - Barry needs to go ASAP. Here in Illinois, he pulled off a couple of dirty tricks and won the senate seat, running away.

I’m certainly in good company.

(The Democrat Party reminds me of the Three-Card Monte games I’ve seen in Manhattan.)

Thank you for your responses.

Best Regards.

Hillary just isn't an option for the Dems. She was their second choice in 2008, after Obama. It's not likely that rank and file Democrats are going to turn around and say, "Sheesh, we chose the wrong Marxist last time..."

No, if they can't have Obama, they have to find some other charismatic champion who can draw in and energize their base. That ain't Hillary by any stretch of the imagination. I don't know who they could possibly find that can match Obama for star power.

I'm trying to remember any Democrat who ran a second time, after losing a presidential election. Al Gore? I don't think the Dems are all that big on giving losers a second chance.

Friend, you've got a great imagination, but it simply does not work like that in the black voting community.

Any black politician who dared to stand before an audience of black voters in 2012 and try to convince them to give their vote to someone other than Obama would be risking their very life.

Trust me, black politicians are not going to sell Obama out for love or money (although they'll take both, and tell you they will). The depth of allegiance to this man in the black community is near religious, and quite unshakeable. The only person who can convince black voters to support some other Dem for president, is Obama himself.

What do you think the chance of that are?

My bet is a large number of blacks are coming to realize the Won is a monumental screw-up and would welcome a chance at immediate redemption of their skin color. And of course, there is the question of their own economic prospects, along with those of the rest of the nation.

Important post. It is not enough that Obama be defeated...or even that he is forced to withdraw from a second term.

OBAMACARE:

NOTHING!!! is more important than to see the utter demolition of ObamaCare. It is and will continue to be the cornerstone of fascism in this country. Think I am exaggerating? The Dems were willing to expend ALL their political capital and future re-elections on the passage of this bill.

As with our founding fathers' arguments concerning property rights, when a fascist government owns the delivery of healthcare, it owns YOU. It has permission to invade your home, your bank account, and your PERSON---for the good of all.

ObamaCare requires obliteration. Any proposed healthcare reform requires a total do-over, and any GOP candidate who doesn't have the foresight to see that is not a friend of ours, and moreover, not a friend of our Constitutional Republic.

I hate ObamaCare with a white-hot hatred. It is the vehicle to the destruction of all we hold dear.

A small example of my argument--- a post I posted today.

Everything they do is underestimated. They (and/or their handlers) are always trying to kill two or three birds with one stone.

It's Another "Us" Crisis

"In her speech, Michelle Obama declared that childhood obesity was a national security problem. (Janet Napolitano has already declared that Global Warming is a national security threat.) To be clear about this, we have an administration that insists that America could survive another 9/11. That doesn't care about the impact of repealing DADT on ground troops in combat. Which actually tried to move the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed into a civilian court. But considers kids who eat too many Twinkies to be a national security problem.

"We have an administration which has chosen to grope little kids, rather than profile Muslims. But heaven forbid if little Billy has an extra snack before bed. Then the alarms will go off in the Department of Homeland Security, because little Billy might not lose weight on his own. And then he becomes a problem for the mandatory government health care system. With every American now a factor in a national health care monolith, it's important to force Billy to lose weight in order to cut costs. Just as it will be important to cut off his treatment and encourage him to choose euthanasia when as an adult his health care costs rise too high."

"it's important to force Billy to lose weight in order to cut costs."

I disagree with this statement. Rather---it's important to force Billy to lose weight in order to cut costs expand costs--- to expand ObamaCare."

Federal monitoring of our children's BMI is going to require many more man-hours and even home visits. With respect to home visits---already slotted in ObamaCare (re: the elderly and the "death panel"), this will require an army of workers....think ACORN (and its renamed incarnations)---all making decisions FOR you and on behalf of the "greater good."

Foreseeing that parents could be given warnings and charged with neglect under this regime is not a stretch.

PS:

Mrs. Obama applauds Olive Garden announcement (If kids wants french fries, adult will have to ask)

Olive Garden, Red Lobster to slash fat and salt; Michelle Obama declares healthy 'breakthrough'

Note: Darden Restaurants is parent company of Olive Garden and Red Lobster (among other chains).

Flashback: Obama's Lunch Buddy's Company Given Obamacare Waiver (Olive Garden CEO)

Restaurant chain partnering with White House anti-obesity campaign received ObamaCare Waiver

That is just a recent, miniscule capsule of how ObamaCare will evolve as the cornerstone of fascism, ever at work to invade our home and our very person.

These fascists are nothing if not creative.
