With the Arab Spring protests of the past year or two serving as inspiration, Twitter and Facebook has been used to organize a large group of protestors on Wall Street and an occupation of Wall Street is currently underway.
Twitter is currently also being used as a platform for non-attendees to weigh in on the controversy, with a steady stream of pro and against tweets either lauding the efforts or dismissing protesters as about to get bored and seek a Starbucks on their iPhones or burn daddys money. Web activist groups and collectives including The Other 98% (an organization lobbying for corporate and top 2% tax reforms and the like) and the formidable Anonymous have been linked with the protests- more of which are occurring in satellite locations.
One circulated statement urging participation said:
On the 17th of September, we want to see 20,000 people to flood into lower Manhattan, set up beds, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months. Like our brothers and sisters in Egypt, Greece, Spain, and Iceland, we plan to use the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic of mass occupation to restore democracy in America. We also encourage the use of nonviolence to achieve our ends and maximize the safety of all participants.
Currently, #takewallstreet has overtaken #occupywallst as a trending topic on the microblogging service and even celebrities are getting in on the fray. Roseanne Barr has tweeted on her feed, @therealroseanne, and rapper Lupe Fiasco posted:
If anybody needs me Ill be on Wall St: #iwilloccupy#occupywallstreet@OccupyWallSt@OccupyWallStNYC
Total headcount estimates for the event have not been attempted yet. The protests official site is located here. https://occupywallst.org/
Is this take a Commie to work day?
LOL
Okay, I'll attempt a "headcount": ALL of them are head cases.
Stew in it.
True story- every time one of those “Guy Fawkes” masks from “V For Vendetta” is sold, Time Warner gets a royalty.
Way to stick it to the Man!
Tea Party pictures are the opposite - the MSM does their best to minimize the look of crowds.
Also, Janet and friends won't bother to look to closely at this - they're all liberals after all... Homeland Security is looking for political enemies - of the 'right' kind...
Probably just a band of about 30 twits, a twitterin away.

NY sanitation workers will be very, very busy.
It’s just like these knuckleheads to show up on a Saturday. Note to fools: the markets are closed on Saturday, if you want to make an impression it might make some sort of wretched sense to try on a Monday.
More useful idiots who don’t understand what is really going on.
Of course, they think they are the intellectual ‘supermen.’
Everything should be free!
I say a thousand, maybe 1,500 tops when this fizzles out in a few days. No what will they stay camped out into November. Global warming will cause it to be to cold.
One actually wrote that the air show tragedy was staged to avert attention from their mass temper tantrum.
The absolutely disheartening thing is that the inmates in that Livestream insane asylum VOTE. How can we make the voices in their head tell them that Election Day is in December starting in 2012?
These are slackers who were too stoned to pay attention to anything they were taught in high school. “Typing is for the working class,” one of them writes. Calling Mars! We have one of yours down here!
It would make more sense if they were in Washington DC protesting their thief President.
