Not a p-51, Galloping Ghost was a custom made AC.The pattern used for the custom build looked like a p-51 to some but it was a custom aircraft, patterned after what was known as the “Cleveland Racer.”
The reporting on this is in gross error.It had no belly scoop, for cooling, the tail section is no where like a P-51.The V-12 engine put out twice as much power as the P-51 engine. A p-51 air frame would tear apart trying to do what the Gallping Ghost could do in terms of performance.
